Blown turbo hose, stuck in Kiama NSW. Help?

Hi,
I'm from Brisbane and currently visiting kiama. My jeep is in Kiama with a blown turbo hose, engine side after intercooler.

I have to leave on Monday to drive back to Brisbane, and I can't find a wrecker or stock of a replacement hose before then.

Do any forum members have one I could buy?

It's a 2005 kj auto.

I am going to try to repair mine as well but we'll see how it goes.

If you have a plumbing supply place nearby or a home improvement type store, look for a product that here in the USA is called "Silicone Stretch and Seal Tape" or "Rescue Tape" that general supply and plumbing places may have.

This is a self-fusing silicone tape that only sticks to itself - You have to pull it at least 50% longer while applying so that it "activates" and will bond to itself as you wrap it around whatever is left of the hose. Hopefully there is enough left that you can "build" your own replacement hose.

Because this will be under significant pressure, I would do at least a triple wrap around the damaged section of boost hose, going at least 3-4 inches in either direction (or to the end if closer than that) and you should be good for at least a few hundred miles. Don't stomp on the accelerator, and you should make it home decently.

Another possible temporary fix:
Get a piece of exhaust tubing that is same size as inside (ID) of boost hose, cut out bad section, insert hose ends over outside of exhaust tubing and clamp both ends with screw clamps and drive on....
If you cannot find exhaust tubing, some PVC pipe might suffice to get you home...any kind of pipe of the right size could be used temporarily... :wink:

Thanks guys, I posted on ajor as well, looks like I'm going to take the pipe off, clean it with solvent, sand around the tear, coat it in rubber cement, wrap in the "rescue tape" and then tie off with cable ties on the end. I'll report back how it goes.

If you are using the silicone tape, you don't need rubber cement, and that might actually make it harder for the rescue tape to work. That stuff bonds to itself and holds the pressure in by sheer strength of compression - It won't necessarily hold 100% of the pressure, but it will be a lot better that zero!

Nothing PVC will hold up, the hot air from the turbo will melt the PVC in short order. The idea of exhaust tubing isn't a bad one, if the silicone tape doesn't hold then you still have the option of cutting up the hose to make "collars" for the metal tubing which absolutely will work if you can find the right pieces.

I used the silicone repair tape, with a layer of contact adhesive underneath, that I let go off till only tacky. It survived a 1000km trip, and it's still going. Currently waiting for my new hoses in the post.
