Just wanted to have a list for everyone for the easiest manual swap setup available, which I would assume I'd the stock configuration? I believe this is the easy route as GDE can provide the detuned tune right? I know it would have less power, but I want to build one for fun if it's not too much work.

1. NSG370 from eBay/junkyard?
2. What transfer case is used in Europe and can we get them, and does it require fabrication?
3. Some trim pieces required around the shifter?
4. Driveline shorten/lengthen?
5. Gde tune
6. Gears?
7. What else am I missing?

I thought the NV242 could bolt up to the manual. Isnt that what the euro guys have?

Here's what I found on the Novak site: the 3550 is actually rated at 300 ft lbs, better than the 6 speed. I need tiu go re-read the manual swap threads. It would be nice to not have to detune the engine, although I really wonder what kind of efficiency we could get out of the six speed. I also wonder if we could get past the gear issue with taller tires?

The NSG370 transmission replaced the similar-strength NV3550 and the light-duty NV1500 in the Wrangler and Liberty vehicles. The 370 was installed in other Chrysler and Mercedes products, such as the Crossfire and ML Series.

The Jeep 3550 was factory married to the NP231 and NP241OR transfer cases. It features the common Jeep / Dodge 6-bolt transfer case mounting face for driver's side drop transfer cases. The 23 spline output shaft makes it compatible with the 23 spline version of the NP231.

I think it most certainly would overcome some of the gearing issue with bigger tires. The ratios are pretty short on that trans from what I recall, but you and I with our 80 mph speed limits would hate it the second we got off back roads. I think i calculated that 6th would put you at 2800 rpm at 80 with the 3.73's.

No manual trans got a 242 t-case in any Chrysler product,driveablity issues.

lacabrera is in the UK and has a 6 speed + 242. Chris J, the guy who did the swap here in the US used his stock 242.

The biggest issue is gears I think. Unless you run some HUGE tires its just gunna suck. Even with 32's you would be at ~2150 rpm @ 65mph and ~2625 @ 80mph. That just makes things expensive.

1800 RPM @ 65 and 2200 rpm @ 80. Looks to be about what the 545RFE is now on 31's.

I have been running 242 with my 6 speed for more than 2 years now with zero problems. There is no need to de tune the motor I run a equivalent to a hot tune and tow 2 ton with this transmission. I mentioned it before and I wish the rest of this truck was as reliable to the Merc tranny.

1) OR NV3550 from a 2002-2004KJ. OR NV3550 from a 2000-2001 XJ with different bellhousing(PN is in search). OR NV3550 form TJ with different bellhousing. OR Getrag from a dodge Dakota.

2) 231 or 242 will boltup to the 4wd versions of the above.

yep 3.73 gear's for me is not a problem this truck rarely see's speeds above 60mph with the poor road network in my area.

well , i know we are talking swapping auto transmission to manual , what about swapping crd US model AND EU model , wound that be easier ? say i have 06 with 110 miles with almost every upgrade done. just sitting in garage , so if i can find one like it in EU and swap it ? yes i know shipping charges apply , but again not only i would get my favourite manual transmission i would get bullet proof glow plug system so yes i guess i could drive it in Canada and will start right up with them 11 v GP ,

Are you asking if, rather than swap the trans, it would be easier to import a manual CRD from Europe and swap your engine into it? If so, I'd say it would probably be much easier to just do the trans swap.

Also I'm pretty sure the 11 volt glow plug system only came in the 2002-'04s and that the '05+ all came with the lower voltage, PWM-controlled plugs.

yeah , JOE that was my idea , it would look good , with lic plate mounted on spare tire and rear bumper look good with them red lights on the bottom , but then police my not like euro specs on our roads LOL. to put in the container and bring it hear it won't be a problem , but licence it here and emission test that be a major problem , so probably not so good idea my bad.
