Has anyone installed a Wicked Wheel turbine or know someone who has?

I thought I'd see if it was worthwhile.

My guess based on limited posts is that boost will happen sooner and create less back pressure while in the making. Peak boost will remain limited by the sensor and/or computer.

To be gained is:
MPG
Low end torque/hp
Possibly a neat turbo sound

All to a small extent

Maybe with GDE and ARP Studs boost pressure can be turned up slightly.

Also, it sounds like they will hit you with a stick if you ask whether or not you need to balance your turbo after the install. They clearly state no.

Im not sure if anyone has installed one or not, i have one but the jeep got totalled before i could use it. I dont think your really gonna notice that much of a difference.

Turbo componets are balanced seperately, but it will definitely benefit from being balanced as an assembly.

Before buying a wicked wheel, check your impeller shaft.
There are two types.
One where the wheel threads onto the shaft with not nut on the end.
And one where the wheel presses onto the shaft with a threaded nut.

I just ordered it about an hour ago. Luckily the listings stated that there are two variations. Mine is a threaded shaft and I was sure to emphasis it. Thanks for looking out for me.

Well more bad news for me. It turns out the threaded vs nut turbine wheel characteristic reflects a revision that had major design changes. The original threaded version I have is said to be flawed and weak in comparison. This is based on information provided by the makers of the Wicked Wheel. That is why they don’t offer that version anymore. The bad original version has enough trouble on its own. Spinning it harder and faster is not going to help its longevity/reliability.

Anyone try one of those ebay rebuild cartridges for 140 bucks or the $300 turbos? The pictures show a nut on the compressor wheel.

The general consensus is that "going cheap" on a component that can directly and almost immediately destroy your entire engine is not worth finding out IF they work. When the Sasquatch is a little more than double and is a much more reliable product, I can't see the point in even giving a cartridge or import turbo consideration.

Right in the description it says hit has a billet high flow compressor wheel. I am just not sure if its the Wicked Wheel or his own design but his picture of the wheel by itself looks exactly like the picture of the Wicked Wheehl on dieselsite.com.

I think the wheel may spool a little faster, but you wont get more torque via the extra boost. As long as the turbo makes the minimum required boost for the desired fuel load based on the "smoke" map in the tune it will provide the same torque no matter what. all extra boost will do is run the engine a little leaner/cleaner.

I could see better MPG's if the wheel can create the same boost with less aggressive VNT angles and lower backpressure in the exhaust. Mass flow doesnt influence the tune so a higher flow wheel wont do much.

Exactly. Those were my impressions as well. However. I would think that if it were the named Wicked Wheel compressor that it would say so. Either way, it works great.
With no other changes to boost level or tune, it seems a more efficient wheel would allow the turbo to satisfy the engine / ECM requirements at a lower speed, which seems to me that it would last longer.
