I keep getting code 0234 Overboost, I have fitted a new MAP sensor, but the problem is still there. how can I check the vane activator can you test it in the car? or what else could it be.

I have a 2005 2.8lt Cherokee with 75,000 miles on it a good clean engine runs well. :banghead:

With the engine running at idle, remove the vacuum line and watch the rod drop.
Then feel for vacuum on the line.
Then reconnect it and watch the rod pull up.

If no movement of the rod, then the turbo vanes are stuck.
If movement looks good, replace the vacuum solenoids.

I pulled the pipe off several times the rod moved freely in and out about 3/4" there was good suction on the pipe, when I pushed it on I could hear a change in the tone from the turbo.

The warning light comes on if I ask for power just to overtake not using a lot of power, if I keep the rev's below 2,250 no problem but if I want to pull out into traffic smartly and the rev's go above 2,600 I get code 0234. and sometimes it ends up in Limp mode not good in the rush hour.

I'm having under boost issue, seems actuator is not working but vacuum is good. Whats best method to repair?
Tried to free by cycling many times but still not moving.....

Why don't you open a topic about low boost?

You might consider the boost control solenoid as well. If it buzzes on cold mornings when you start the jeep that could be a clue that it's on its way out

Where is the control solenoid?

I do not see black smoke but the economy has gone down about 20% guess the extra fuel is spinning up the turbo, I have a long journey in 4 weeks 700 miles there towing a trailer I don't know if it will pull up the hills on the motorway, what could I do next?

Thanks

It's located toward the right rear corner of the engine compartment behind the air cleaner box. If you're having trouble locating it, follow the vacuum line from the turbo.

I have been giving this problem a lot of thought if the Solenoid was not working the turbo vanes could be on max all the time and when I apply the right foot enough extra fuel is put in spinning the turbo into over boost? when driving gently only enough fuel to spin it slowly and no over boost, so it may be the solenoid can I check it? how?

This is driving me mad, what is the cost of the solenoid?

Don't know the price but the PN is 4606226AC - there may be after market alternatives as the same solenoid is used on other DCJ products

Not too expensive $43 is there a test to check it out?

I dont know how you would test it. I know I would get the occational overboost when I trying to accelerate hard up hills for long durations and I was getting poor off the line performance due to lag. I knew my MAP sensor was reading about 10% higher than it should so I swapped that out which helped a little, but then I replaced the solenoid and it really helped the lag and I havent seen another overboost code yet.
