Hi, just bought a 2005 with 2.8 CRD and 153,000 Kms which ran fine for about three days and drove about 250 Kms. Then CEL came on and it won't start.

There's power in the battery (also used jump leads from another vehicle to make sure) and it will crank but won't fire and run.

Read the CRD noob posts - thanks Sam;
checked & cleaned the MAF and the MAP which were oily but not has bad as some of the pictures in the forum.
Checked fuses and relays and all seem fine.
Bled the fuel and no air in the system.
I have a cheap code reader that Bluetooths to a smart phone app and it showed a P1264 code which internet searching shows possible glow plug number 3 failure.

Never owned a diesel before so would the fault code disable / stop the engine from running ? Temps are above 20 Celsius here so it is not a cold start issue.

At a loss as to what to check next ??

Any ideas / suggestions would be most appreciated.

Nick.

crankshaft position sensor is to blame for a lot of non starts.....vehicle cranks over but does not fire up./...

I had the same problem. Just bought the Jeep and didn't run...turned out it was the ASD fuse by the battery in fuse box... Make sure to check ALL your fuses and relays!

Yeah could be cam or crank sensor....replace with OEM only parts.

Check all fuses under the hood and on the panel inside the cabin.

Try swap the ASD Relay under the hood with an identical one.

Any Red LED constantly lit or flashing on the left side of the cluster? :?

Thanks everyone for the advice on what to investigate - turns out it was the crankshaft sensor. Replaced and all running smoothly again.

My trouble and strife (wife :D ) is a happy lady again !

Thanks again and all the best,

Nick
