I had disassemble the fuel head, and thought I could modify the male x male filter mounting nipple fitting to accomplish this.
However the design has a collar in the middle so the filter will not meet the fuel head sans temp puck.
Mountainman, shared a pick of an old style fuel head, and the fitting is actually different. It does not have the collar at the mid point.
I am happy with finding a different fitting or installing an old style head. Either Solution is acceptable. if any one know how to source a straight Stainless steel fitting for the filter mounting that would be awesome.
I don't necessarily have the means to install a complete fuel filtration upgrade at this time -like a racor system.
As always everyone's input is greatly appreciated.
P.S. The engine rebuild was due to Rocker pin bearing getting in to the rear main bearing.

And to any newbies reading this ...if you hear a loud clacking noise from top of engine Stop Driving It!!!!!.
I also have a 2006 with the new style. when I disassembled mine IIRC the threads on the top and bottom were the same, so replacing that with a normal metric nipple would allow you to remove the heater/sensor unit and install the fuel filter directly.
HOWEVER what I can't remember, is if the main body of the fuel filter head is large enough diameter for the filter gasket rings to meet up and seat correctly and safely. Make sure to check this.
