When the CRD transfer case is placed in neutral and the CRD is is towed with a tow bar, does the odometer still rack up miles?

Have found a CRD with with 52k miles. It was used as an RV tow vehicle. So is it possible that drive train mileage is something less than 52k?

I don't know the answer but regardless of what the answer is you need to do the timing belt job unless you are provided proof positive it's been done; way overdue based on age although you can likely skip the water pump.

Yes, no doubt.

The odometer tracks miles by way of the ABS wheel speed sensors.
If the ingnition key if off, the sensors are not powered and therefore, no miles are tracked.

Ah, so a tow vehicle with ignition off when being towed will show less miles on the odometer than actual miles on the chassis. Miles shown on the odometer should be actual miles on the drivetrain.

With the key off (or in the first position which is special to Jeeps to unlock the wheel) the computers are off and the odometer tracks zero miles.

52k miles is what the computer knows, the actual dragged-miles of the suspension and bearings could be far higher.
