After a long stretch of problem-free driving (that's like 6 months in CRD talk!) the Italian Princess is starting to misbehave again.

I had it do this to me about a year ago, but it's now done it to my wife and my daughter twice in 2 weeks.

The episode unfolds like this: Jeep starts and runs fine, after driving several miles and getting up to normal operating temps (and usually after slowing down and then accelerating again) the Jeep starts losing power and won't accelerate, as you slow down and pull over to the side of the road it starts bucking..put it into neutral or park and it will idle okay, but try to accelerate and it sounds like you have the choke on...turn it off and restart one or two times and it's back to normal...until the next time! :banghead:

I am planning on taking this thing to Colorado and doing some 4X4 driving in a month so I"d like to nail down this issue quickly! Any ideas?? All fluids are normal, slight coolant usage, no smoke on start up, timing belt has about 30K miles on it, only ongoing issue is the tranny fluid runback problem.

Do you have a lift-pump installed?
If not, have you pumped up the fuel head and checked for air in fuel when this happens?

yes, lift tank pump installed several years ago...planning on changing the fuel filter this week even though it's not that old.

Codes?

It seems like a fuel system problem.
Verify that good fuel supply all the way to the CP3.

If you have good fuel supply, then its something electrical. Possibly a loose connection at the fuel rail pressure sensor.

I had similar symptoms. Replacing the Crank Shaft Position sensor fixed it. I see you've already replaced that in the past.

I'll replace the air filter too...and the crankshaft POSensor if the problem continues (I carry a spare) 8)

Changed the fuel filter last night and checked everything from top to bottom, the only suspicious thing I found was that there were two rubber o-rings on the water sensor on the bottom...anyone else have this?

Make sure and check that the lift pump is running. If you wired as most, should be able to open the fuel filter bleeder and turn key on and fuel should come out in steady stream without pumping up the filter head. You would probably notice this at filter change anyway.
