Can a dirty air filter cause this CEL code P0299 ?
The CEL will go out after awhile, 200 miles or so, if I don't clear it.
I've cleaned the MAP.

If the air filter is dirty, replace it.

You may need to also clean or replace your MAP sensor.

I have an AFE reusable (much higher grade than K&N) & it was pretty dirty but I was looking for a response from someone who had real life experience that a clean filter fixed the P0299 code.

Problem resolved.
Did a search here on Turbo & Vacuum.
Read some threads about the vacuum modulator and solenoid and did some analysis try to find vacuum further downstream of each fitting and device. Thested e the electrical connections & made sure the wiring was intact. So at the last point where the vacuum leaves the modulator there was vacuum but not at the top of the device that sits atop of the turbo. So I pulled off the entire line from the modulator to the top of the turbo device and discovered a hole in the metal part of the line. The metal line had been rubbing against the heat shield around the top of the device on top of the turbo causing a total loss of vacuum at the turbo.

That was on a 700 mile trip that day. What may have happened is the shield & metal pipe may have just got in the right position to stop the vacuum loss just enough to artificially "plug" the hole in the metal portion of the vacuum pipe. Just guessing.
