Gang,

While tracing a bunch of different noises from the CRD, found metallic rattle coming from TC. Am also getting the Banshee Scream under boost. But, since I triple checked all hoses for splits, and checked all clamps, I'm guessing my 2nd TC has doo doo the bed. After shutdown, as the TC fan-o-mabob slows to a stop, it sounds super crunky. Also, as I sat and listened to the slight metallic noise bounce around from inside TC, every once in awhile I can hear one loud knock from inside the TC housing, like a bearing, or object is bouncing around in there, and occasionally bangs off of the housing.

I need to pull a hose or two from the viscous heater, to get that rubber, molded, elbow intake hose off of the front of TC to inspect. Anything I need to worry about when I pull those heater hoses? Just catch the fluid and top off when Im done?

Also, if it helps: @$#% mice. I had mice nested in the airbox over the winter. I am about to find out if they went back into the inlet and @$#% my TC with a bunch of acorns.

The 2006 Jeep CRD makes me feel alone...cold, desperate, and alone...isolated from humanity...for all time. :D :ALONE: :?

You shouldnt have to remove any other hoses to get the turbo inlet hose off.
It may not pull off easy but it will come off.
And if you are lucky and gentle, it might even come off in one piece without tearing.

I pulled one hose off to make it easy, and of course, it was a river of coolant. Screw that. Just did some intake hose yoga and got it. That hose was disintegrating at clamp location, one penetration. No indication of mice making it to turbo (like they did in my box truck). But the TC is done. Carnival-level play when I move the shaft. Can easily get the blades to contact the housing. Using a mirror, looks like worn metal on blade edges. Don't know how that could've happened, those edges are facing forward. Maybe the play was that bad?

Oh well. Looks like we are on to TC #3, next month.

Other than the standard approach, and stuff that's already documented, any new tips or discoveries?

Into the Turbo Charger. At least, into the inlet hose from the air box. Its been awhile since Ive been here on Lost Jeeps. Couldnt remember what we used "TC" for.

In my box truck, the mice packed the ENTIRE inlet hose with nesting material, from the air box to the front of the Turbo. I let the box truck sit all winter on a mountain property.

This whole time I was thinking torque converter. TC is usually what we use talking about torque converter. But yeah you shouldn't need to take off anything else to get to the turbo inlet hose

I am working on this now. The inlet hose from the air box to the turbo is ripped at the turbo.

I can not figure out how to pull it forward enough to get it out. It's hitting the hoses off the thermostat housing.

Does Jeff Bauer's thermostat housing allow for less room to get the elbow off?

What all do I have to take apart to get the elbow replaced?

dOES ANYBODY HAVE THE PART NUMBER FOR THE ELBOW?

Yes, the viscous heater gets in the way but it can be done without removing it.
Just rip out the old one and gently push on the new one.
