Hey All.. I'm considering a timing clip fpr my 2006 Liberty CRD (Diesel). Anyone have experience with a chip? In general, are chips worth the expense, time and effort. Do you get the the added horsepower and reduced fuel usage the ads claim? Who makes a good chip? I would like one that plugs into the computer /scanner port in the cab. That can be removed and the truck back to normal. |

Forget the Performance Timing Chip. Talk to Keith at GDE. http://www.greendieselengineering.com/Welcome.action I installed the Eco-Tune on our 2005 and am highly satisfied. |

There are do-it yourself tunes available on this forum that cost $0! All is needed is to purchase a MPPS cable off eBay for around $20 bucks and have a laptop computer to re-flash the OBC. Details and guidiance can be found here:> viewtopic.php?f=98&t=78418 Diablo also sales an Extreme Power Puck that you can plug in and is adjustable to get additional power on demand! They can be found for less than $200 bucks if you shop around... http://www.xtremediesel.com/DiabloSport ... -Puck.aspx ![]() |

I 2nd the DIY performance tune! I have increased torque and fuel economy.....what else could you ask for? |

Most of these performance chips simply interrupt the connection to the MAP sensor to fool the MAP sensor...which is basically a variable resistor. I tried one of these on the recommendation of TonyCRD who used to be on the jeep forums until he sold his 2.4 Export CRD. This Italian chip gave me a bit more power but much worse fuel consumption. Then on a long trip I heard a "bang" from the engine and the Jeep ground to a halt. I quickly disconnected this chip and Jeep started up fine and has been running fine for years now without this "special" chip. So I would advise that you do not waste your time and money but rather get a GDE tune for performance or economy. ![]() |

^^^ X2 MAP sensor and Fuel Pressure Sensor have their information variably corrupted to the ECM. Basically lying to the ECM telling it the sensors are "seeing" lower numbers than really exist, so the ECM makes the solenoids increase fuel and turbo pressure. Essentially, you can pay for and install something that costs $350 and risks permanent damage to your engine, and gets worse fuel economy OR Pay $150 more for GDE tune that will do exactly what you want (more power and economy), and reduce engine wear OR Pay under $50 for limited *free tunes that you can experiment with on your own time, and at own risk. *free = someone else's invested time and hardware. |

Thanks for all the info..I think I'll skip the clip. |

I also cannot imagine that the power increase is that great. Changing the rail pressure from the stock 1600 bar to the maximum the sensor can read(1800 bar) is only a marginal increase in additional fuel. my guess is no more than 5-7%. What they might do is ramp the rail pressure up earlier to make you feel like its more powerful in the mid-range throttle but the reality is its a driveability thing as opposed to an actual increase in peak power. And honestly, increasing the boost is most likely a waste of time anyways. You dont need it until you are running a LOT more fuel and all its doing is making the turbo work harder and spin faster for no real reason. |
