While you got it apart, you should really consider blocking off the EGR system completely, it causes lots of problems with this engine!!!

Hi all... Are there any diagrams or pictures of the turbocharger installed? I've looked at parts diagrams, the service manual, and pictures on google and I'm able to figure most of it out, but I still have a few questions. 1. How does the oil feed line connect to the turbo? 2. How does the exhaust (cat. converter?) attach to the turbo? Is there a clip that holds it in place? 3. I have a new gasket for the connection from the turbo to the oil return line. Do I need to apply any type of sealer or just leave it dry? Thanks in advance |

1. Banjo bolt plus two copper washers. 2. V-band clamp. 3. Dry is fine. Don't forget the support bracket that goes underneath and the heat shield that goes in top. The oil drain tube is a total pain. Get the turbo bolted down before installing the drain tube. The tube gets in the way. |

On Top, centered (between the turbine and compressor housings) Looks just like a bolt hole (which it is, but special banjo bolt) Before fastening it, I HIGHLY recommend putting exhaust grade thermal insulation around the oil supply tube, for the complete length. such as this and / or this and / or this |

Nope you have to use oem. Its an extra wide clamp that nobody else makes. Is there a reason your asking these questions? Does the CRD you have not have a turbo on it? Everything youve asked is self-explanatory when your looking at it on the jeep, but if yours doesnt have a turbo i could see the reason for the questions. |

Depends on how you block the EGR and whether the inspector knows what the EGR system looks like on a KJ CRD, which is rather doubtful. There are tunes (GDE is best) that functionally disable the EGR and are invisible to emissions test or you can install a block off plate which is virtually invisible (don't know if that will trigger a CEL but if it does a tune will turn it off). |

A block off plate installed at the EGR valve is impossible to see if installed properly!  NO tune can completely eliminate the EGR flow if the EGR valve happens to be leaking by, only a mechanical means like a block off plate or Week's elbow kit can do that! Some say installing a block off plate on the EGR valve will trip an occasional DTC (check engine light)? So it is hard to guarantee that it will not. I had mine blanked off for over 6 months before installing the Weeks Elbow Kit and I never once got a DTC because of it to my knowledge. But again, some say they have, stange! There are some do-it-yourself tunes available on this forum that will disable any DTC's concerning the EGR and / or FCV. |

As I just have the stock tune on mine so far, even though I have Weeks 1&2, I needed to turn off the EGR and FCV CELs and DTC codes. I unbolted the EGR solenoid, as well as the FCV servo motor, and reconnected them with the original loom connectors, tucked out of the way. Even though there is no function for either at all, the computer is happy. 2000 miles, and No emissions codes. Active, Pending, or Stored. (I've been fighting some unrelated ABS codes, but nothing from the emissions peanut gallery.) |

Getting ready to tear into my turbo later this week when all the parts arrive. Putting in a Sasquatch turbo and new hoses. The top hose had a 2 inch long rip at the connection to the turbo and I thought I had found the problem, but unfortunately for my wallet the turbo spindle had significant play in it. Is there a play-by-play how-to anywhere on the forum? Looks pretty straightforward to me. |
