I need a new fan shroud for my 05 card. Will the 06 shroud and fan work?

05 and 06 CRDs use the same fan shroud.

what about the fan in that diagram? It looks much better than the metal 5 blade my 05 has. Will it bolt up as well?

And another question: my temp just made it to 3/4 driving stop and go in town. I pulled over and shut the engine off. The fan clutch spins freely. Shouldn't it be engaged at that temp? I replaced it with that heavy duty Hayden fan clutch. back in early spring.

That diagram does not accurately depict a 05 or 06 CRD.
Both 05 and 06 have the same fan, clutch, and shroud.

WWdiesel has previously demonstrated that a GM plastic fan and fan-clutch can be used.
Mass-hole has recently attached a fixed, no clutch, flex fan to his that cured his cooling problems.

I read in another post that the 06 cooled much better than the 05. Is that true?

Is there not a fan clutch that works? I'm thinking that I will replace the broken shroud first and see if the extra airflow onto the clutch will get it to engage.

Speaking of the shroud, every search I do for just a shroud returns one for a 3.7 v6. Is that the correct shroud?

OEM SHROUD. Fan, Part No. 52080127AA
Fits these models:
Jeep Liberty 4x4, 2.8L 4 Cyl Turbo Diesel, 5-Spd Automatic 5-45RFE EDITION Limited 2005
Jeep Liberty 4x4, 2.8L 4 Cyl Turbo Diesel, 5-Spd Automatic 5-45RFE EDTION Limited 2006
Jeep Liberty 4x4, 2.8L 4 Cyl Turbo Diesel, 5-Spd Automatic 5-45RFE SPORT 2005, 2006

Looks like it does fit some of the 3.7's as well, according to the web...

For more information on updating to the 11 blade GM plastic fan and a V8 GM Hayden HD fan clutch, see this thread:

........... Broken shroud......
Has this broken shroud been cut horizontally separating the top and bottom half?
If this is so, it's probably just the common shroud mod that makes doing just about anything on the CRD much easier and faster.

As far as fan and clutch, the best priced combo is below with part #s in my sig. I have had zero temperature issues with this setup.

thanks for that info Gordnado. My shroud was damaged when my accessory belt came apart. It is also broke in two on one side (did make it easier to replace the fan clutch). The bottom half of the shroud hangs down a little and it doesn't give a good "seal" for the fan to draw air through the rad. The seal on top isn't good either because the flailing belt took chunks out of the shroud. I am considering the shroud mod you mention though. I'll know for sure after I find the thread that outlines the process.
