There is a typical engine ticking sound when oil is not at max level. I still have it even with rockers and lifters replaced. Half way between min and max has a ticking sound noticeable standing in side of engine bay. Adding oil will muffle the sound. This is the way this engine sounds. Posting a YouTube video would help a lot getting more accurate responses.

BTW, motor mounts issues are changing slightly when transmission is in drive or reverse, lift the brake and slightly accelerate when keeping the door open, you should be able to hear a noise difference if mounts are shot.

So you are saying if oil pressure goes up the ticking sound goes away?

I'm only talking at idle, when oil pressure is the same as long as there is enough oil in the sump for the oil pump, so for me, if I'm in between min an max half way on dipstick, I have some slight ticking, if I add more oil to the max, the ticking is almost gone. I am not sure exactly why it does that, since it doesn't make sense. If I max the oil on dipstick then it will drip it all over through the provent return hose, till it stabilizes at 1/2 dipstick level. I'm not concerned about the slight ticking bc oil analysis are good, so there is no excessive wear.

When I rev the engine, I don't notice any ticking sound difference between max level and 1/2 level.

I also noticed that engine is a bit quieter with 5w40, be it Rotella t6 or mobil tdt, versus having the Mobil 0W-40. This makes a bit of sense since the diesel oil is a bit thicker even at warm than the 0W-40.

Can a crush washer leak cause fuel to appear at base of injector on top of engine?
Yes, but first double check that it's not coming from the high pressure line that feeds the injector, or the return line at the top of the injector.

I know somebody said they are using 15w-40 oil . Would this be doable in socal?

I've been using 15w 40... X 70,000 miles.... No issues, no problems rockers look good as new. My oil change intervals are at 3200 miles

Gde said its fine to use dino diesel oil in crd. Just make sure you change it sooner than a synthetic oil. I one wouldn't use dino, since synthetic oil prices are quite decent. But there are folks, especially those with farms that buy dino oil in bulk, for which dino oil is a better choice.

dyno = short for dynamometer

dino = short for dinosaur. Also known as ancient giant creatures whose dead decaying bodies, compressed by multiple layers of soil and rock, became oil. :mrgreen:
