Post subject:  Replacement Front Hub Assemblies, Moog Or SKF?

After having Timken replacement front hub assemblies go bad after about 15000 mi. I come to find out from some members here, that Timkens are not what they used to be. So now I have to redo this job. Do some of the members have experience / preference between Moog or SKF? Both appear to have a 3 year warranty as opposed to the Timken 1 year, and the price seems to be comparable (between the Moog and SKF). I have read somewhere that SKF may have been the OEM supplier as well. Thoughts, experiences?

Thanks,
Mr. Hemi

I got my replacement hub from a local Advance Auto Parts.
Dont know if its SKF or what but that was over 40,000 miles ago and its still going strong.

Would be nice to get OEM if possible, since I've seen many last 200k. I'd like to add the brand to my notes if anyone knows for sure?

Not sure about the OEM from my experience. I had a low mileage one owner 2006 KJ gasser (same bearing hub as a CRD) that the right front had been replaced with OEM by the dealer at about 20000 miles. I had to replace that same hub again at about 50000 miles. Replaced both at that time with Timkens. I don't own it anymore to know how they held up. The Jeep had been used as an RV toad by the original owner though, that may have impacted the longevity. I obtained it at about 35000 miles. From my industrial background I know SKF makes really good bearings, but, they also make a lesser quality line to compete with Asian junk. Just not sure which way the automotive sector went, well, actually I am quite confident which way they went. Moog, I have no idea the origins of their products.

My drivers side hub is still factory original with over 200k miles.
I had to replace the passenger side hub because several of the wheel studs broke off.

Although it wont fix worn out bearings, you can periodically add grease to the hub by removing the ABS sensor and squirting some grease into the hole.

Don't be fooled by the SKF label on the box.
They no longer make them in Canada. They have them made for them in Korea.
Got this from a very reputable source.

I know skf is better than Timken which outsourced the auto bearing. You can get a very good price off of ebay.

You can grease the wheel bearings by removing the abs sensor and squirt grease through the hole, while rotating the hub, like flash mentioned.
