My Question : What can cause a P0605 code besides a bad TCM? <- For those of you not into story time.

So I have had this vehicle since 06 and it has really been great but all the issue I have had with it have been electrical. Yet again the bug strikes. We were returning from a trip and I pulled off from a stop light roughly 3 miles from my house and all the dash lights came on and I limped it home to find the alternator was not charging. I swapped it out and all was well. Two days later my wife said it seems like it is hard to get going, I hit like 3500 RPMs on a hill to get moving, so I test drive it and sure enough it is stuck in 3rd gear, limp in mode. Before I took it in I checked all fuses for a simple fix but no dice. I took it to a transmission shop because Chrysler had a 3 week backup before they could see me.
Here are the codes it had :
- p0401 Minimal EGR Flow
- p0299 Turbo Underboost Condition
- p0560 system voltage
- p0564 s/c multifunction input 1
- p1684 Battery was disconnected - because I just changed an alternator probably
- p0605 Internal Trans Controller
based on their diagnosis they determined I needed a TCM so I got one from Mopar, a remanufactured one, and installed it. Did not fix it. It is still stuck in limp-in mode and same issues. They had it for another half day and determined the TCM was bad, I am not buying that.
Is there a wiring issue that can throw a P0605?
A fusible link that could have burnt?
Or one of those weird wiring decisions from Chrysler where they run a critical line through a sensor to get power to a main internal component of a Module and that sensor is bad?
One last piece of information they told me the trans temperature was reading over 1000F all the time. Not sure if a bad trans temp sensor could be the culprit here just additional information in case that is possible.

Transmission temperature will directly affect shift points and can cause limp mode!
I would suggest replacing transmission temperature sensor first, clear all codes and hopefully it will fix problem.
Also make sure your transmission is full or a little over full with ATF+4 and the fluid is a nice red color and does not smell burnt or look rear dark...

An update I attempted to remove the TCM they installed and put the factory one back in and the bolt in the center of the connector just spins. It feels like they broke the nut loose from the plastic mount inside the module. Any ideas on how to remove it? This Jeep is very important to us and we are pretty upset these clowns disrespected it like this. Thanks for the quick reply and any ideas on how to get that connector loose will be appreciated.

Bear in mind the well known possible problem with the LHD 2006 CRD that the cable harness going behind the Fuel Filter Head Bracket can be damaged by the bracket. This can cause all sorts of weird problems so remove that bracket and check the wiring in that area is not being shorted to chassis.

The wiring diagrams are imbeded in the Factory Service Manuals and are free for viewing on-line or downloading as you desire.

Sometimes I look at both 05 and 06 FSM's as there can be little discrepancies for certain year models...
