I agree with Flash's assessment.

I recommend NOT putting your hand in there to feel for the problem. Even a tiny fuel leak can penetrate your skin, possibly fatally.

With the engine off, take a light rag (handkerchief, tissues?) and place them snugly but lightly around the base of each injector.

Use a piece of cardboard to block the air from the fan blowing on them directly.

Start the engine and let it idle for a bit (30 seconds is plenty) then shut it off again.

Pull the cardboard away and check the tissues. Which one is leaking, should be apparent, with the tissues blown away or more carbon deposits, or both.

2006 Jeep Liberty CRD Hi, I just bought this car and need a little help with a puffing sound coming from the top of the engine. When i bought the car two weeks ago, the oil was over the fill line by about an inch. Changed it and put in 6.4 quarts. https://youtu.be/QxXZjUpFh-Y Can anyone help with this noise? Thanks

It could be an exhaust leak. Or it could be combustion gases leaking past one of the injectors.

Really appreciate your quick response. Sounds like the noise is on top. Could I feel the leaks? Also, I'm 200 miles from home. Would either of those leave me stranded whilst driving home?

X2... be very careful inspecting diesel engine fuel systems. There definitely is enough pressure generated by a diesel engine's fuel injection system to inject fuel through your skin. I seem photos of the results of this, and it is U-G-L-Y. It is also excruciatingly painful, both at the time of the incident and after surgeons open up you hand and arm to release all of the fuel injected in your body.
