With all the problems everybody seems to be having with the torque converter and transmission, Has anyone thought of taking the 6 speed manual transmission out of a gasser liberty or a wrangler and putting it behind the CRD? I'd like to do this converson as soon as my warranty expires. I'm sure the mounting points for the clutch pedal are there already. Catherine |

Interesting idea. A lot of guys with automatics in older dodge diesel trucks do this swap. My only concerns would be what the bellhousings look like and what ratios are in the gasser 6-speed and how well they would match the CRD's powerband. By the time the warranty is up the 6-speed gassers should be showing up in junkyards. I'm going to have to keep this in mind. -Vic |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't DC sell the CRD with a six speed in Europe? I think a six speed would be great, but you would have computer issues galore if you did it as a swap. 'Puter would really miss talking to the auto trans.  I think it could be overcome, but it might be more trouble than the mechanical aspects of the swap.

yes I would think you would need the ECM for a 6spd CRD to have things work proper. |

Yep, the CRD can be mated to the 6-speed in Euro/Aussie form. They also get the CRD as an option in the Renegade. I will also be doing this swap after the warranty expires. The KJ won't be my daily driver at that point either, so I'll probably be able to experiment more. |

Yes the KJ CRD in europe comes with a 6 speed. Now that being said, IF you do it then make darn sure you get a tranny and parts from somewhere other than Australia, UK, Ireland, Scotland, Jamaca, South Africa, Hong Kong, Japan, India and a couple others that use RHD. If you get RHD parts then you will be SOL on installing them in your LHD KJ. |
