A slightly new twist one CPS failure on my son’s 06 driving on interstate from Denver to Kearney, NE he pulled off in Fort Morgan, CO for a break and the engine just flat shut off while slowing down on the off ramp. Called me and after waiting ca. 20 minutes the vehicle restarted and he drove at hwy speed to Kearney off ramp where the engine stall and restart cycle repeated; did the same at each stop light/sign between there and his apartment. Ordered CPS which was installed by Kearney Tire and Auto Service, thanks guys, with the aid of engine pics from my tech PDF. They pulled CPS related codes P0335 and 0339. Engine had “stuttered” a couple of times before Ft. Morgan at hwy speed as if it tried to shut down but was able to “bump” start at speed. No CEL until a while after the Ft. Morgan restart.
Most prior CPS issues seem to involve failure to start while engine is hot not engine just quitting while driving at slower speed or decelerating. Kearney Tire reports CPS failure is not uncommon on other vehicles including gassers.
PS mileage of vehicle is ca. 89,000 and drive for Kearney to Holdrege, NE and back with no issues indicates problem is fixed.
