Well the Advanced Auto 'top of the line' Platinum AGM died after 3.5 years...it wasn't abused and only spent one Midwest winter sitting outside. I couldn't even find the P1 AGM on the Sears website (turns out they aren't offering it anymore, just a 'Diehard Gold AGM' with 3 yr warranty) and I didn't want to spend $200 so I went with the Sam's Club Duracell AGM (made in USA) dual post for $130. Only thing I don't like is that it doesn't seem to lock into the battery tray as well as I would like, so I may have to fabricate something to keep it from wiggling.

RE: Battery
Installed Sam's Club Ever ready group 34 on October 31, 2012. Still going strong. It cost $84.23 before state and federal taxes.

On February 10, 2010 I purchased a Sears Odyssey Diehard P1 for my 2005 CRD and to this day it still turns over the engine just fine. It is still capable of a hefty crank even though the CCA have dropped.

It will probably need replacement soon, even so I'll keep babying it till the last day, hopefully next year.

I believe that its longevity is not only due to its fine craftsmanship but also to a continual overnight trickle charge one day a month to lessen desulfation and maintain it at its peak performance.

I have a Odyssey PC1500DT that was made July of 2007(installed August 2007),retired from the KJ in 2016 and being used since to power my smoke machine at work and never have recharged it.Lasted tested a few months ago and still put out just shy of 600cca's(825 rated).

Not bad for not being recharged for almost 2 years and being used on a almost daily basis, smoke machine draws 0.5 amps and normally run for 10-15mins by 6 times a week on average.

First cold snap showed my yellow top to be shot. Only 3.5 years on it. What a disappointment. My last yellow top lasted 9.5 years in my dakota. I guess the talk is true. R.I.P. optima.

Just ordered an Odyssey pc1500t.

Does anyone know how determine the date of manufacture on a Optima red top? I bought our CRD in 5/2014 with an Optima red top. I doubt it's the original battery, but I don't have a record of when the battery was replaced.

My yellow top has a little green circle sticker with the month and year right on top.

Found this on another forum for Optima batteries, hopefully it may be of some help?
The battery date of manufacturer is by the barcode tag on the side of the battery. the first 4-5 numbers are the year and the day of the year that the battery was made. Newer batteries have a Month/Year sticker on them too.
Example 10183XXXXXXXXXX this would be year 2010 -183 day of the year = July 2

Every battery manufacturer has their own coding system, some may be the same or similar, while others may be very unique only to that company!
Some use stickers while others burn codes into the side or on top of the battery case.
Best of my knowledge, there is no standard coding system... :(
