So I’m driving on a dead flat highway today with the cruise set on 57. That’s the slowest I can go while keeping the converter locked up (fuel mileage reasons). All of a sudden the converter unlocks and it downshifts to drive. I reset everything and it done it again after a few miles. Then I tried bumping the cruise up to 65. After about 20 miles it did it again. I stopped and checked the fluid and it is fine. Any ideas on what to check?

Did you have you ELM327 OBD thingy plugged in while running Torquepro?

Otherwise, I’d look at either the brake pedal switch or wheel speed sensors.

Yep I was running torquepro. How did you know?

It just does that.

In fact, leaving anything plugged into the OBD port fo too long will cause that. And it doesn’t have to be with the cruise on.

On my torquepro app I turned the data read speed down to the slowest possible.
So now the torquepro gauges don’t respond instantly but my transmission no longer does any crazy downshifting.

Chrysler engineers pieced this thing together and some of the modules don’t like each other. One of these modules is supposed to shut off after some time to prevent interference with the others and an OBD device does not let it, so eventually it causes things to go haywire

Yep, well known issue. Tranny goes nuts if OBD device is plugged in "too" long.

Yes, there are too many things participating actively on the data bus. And what happens is eventually the transmission computer encounters too many data crashes and gives up and reboots. You lose cruise control, but you also throw the transmission out of overdrive into third gear, usually violently.

The problem is that the default position of the transmission is with overdrive off, until it has a chance to poll the switch and know that it is pushed or not. Then it will reengage overdrive. But this takes 3 to 4 seconds after the computer reboots.

I am surprised, because this is the first time I have heard of someone with a torque pro device having the same problem as people with other scan tools. This usually happens with the scan gauge or any of the iPhone based scanners. You learn very quickly to not leave anything connected to the OBD port.

i have an Innova scanner that I used to leave plugged into the OBD port continuously before the tunes came along with EGR/FCV DTC's delete.
It never caused any issues described above with the transmission or cruise control that I can recall! Guess it depends on the scanner eh, or I was very lucky????

I think it's well established that the DCJ computer interfaces back then are/were moody beasts at best.

Thanks for all the information. I also mistakenly said torquepro. I have been running OBD Fusion on my iPhone. Is the ELM327 device being connected too long causing the problem? Or is it the app itself that does it? Sometimes the app loses the data feed after five minutes and sometimes it will go for over an hour. My tranny problem started during an exceptionally long run for the app.

Another strange thing happened at the same time as the first tranny problem. My fuel consumption on the evic and on OBD fusion increased about 25%. I installed a 2.5 inch and larger tires last fall and that decreased MPG on the evic about 25%. After this episode the evic is reporting the same MPG that it did before the lift. Is there a chance that the catalytic converter is clogged and impairing performance? Maybe the tranny kickdown dislodged an obstruction to exhaust flow? I hesitated to mention this because it sounds crazy to me.

I would doubt very seriously that any exhaust stoppage in a CAT would or could heal itself!
But if you can depending on where you reside, get rid of the CAT, your engine will breath better....

You’re probably right. But why has the eviction mpg suddenly returned to pre-lift numbers?
