Post subject:  ARP Head Stud Kits for the CRD

Stumbled up on this on FB this morning!
Anyone used this kit or have knowledge of anything about it?
Certainly sounds better than having to buy two VW kits, and apparently the studs are a little better matched in length to match the Jeep CRD head thickness.
I certainly like the idea if plausible! :D

Custom assembled kit for the 05-06 Liberty with a VM 2.8L CRD engine. This kit uses a slightly longer stud that allows the stud to be fully bottomed out in the block unlike the common approach of using 2 VW TDI head stud kits that are slightly too short. Torque is 125lb/ft.
Includes 18 ARP2000 studs, 18 ARP washers, 18 ARP nuts, and a packet of ARP assembly lube.

Thoughts, feedback?

If I had known about this I might have gone this way but I dont see how a couple extra threads would make a difference. If anything, its gunna be the top of the stud that is only holding onto the nut that will exhibit the most "stretch" I would think. I recall the block side threads being much sturdier and having far more depth than the thickness of the nut.

Extra length probably does not matter. However, these are ARP studs and you save a bit of money over having to buy 2 204-4706 kits and having studs left over. Good buy

Wonder why IDParts or Sasquatch does not offer a ARP head stud kit like this one with the correct length and correct number (18) of studs, nuts, and washers specifically for the Jeep CRD application? :o
It would be nice if they did!!!

Apparently Mr Whitbread did a little more research than everyone else and found studs that were just a little bit longer.
But he doesn't list the ARP part # so we cant exactly look it up ourselves and compare specs.
And for all we know he's buying them in sets of 10 (or 20, or whatever) and repackaging them.

lightningmotorsports.com lists the ARP 204-4706 at $155 per set of ten (plus shipping). Its where I bought my studs from.

Personally, I'd like to see a side by side comparison.

I personally like the idea of having 100% nut to stud thread contact by using a slightly longer stud!
It certainly can't hurt!

I don't disagree.
But I would still like to see a comparison.
I guess someone will have to buy them to see. I've already got my studs so my interest in them is rather low.

Still, the lack of information on the website concerns me.
He lists tunes available for the CRD. A stage 1 and stage 2. But no information about what the tunes do for performance.
I mean, I guess if you don't publish any claims then you don't have back up those claims. But it must be hard to sell them without any real information.

Seriously, how hard is it to post a picture showing the longer stud next to the TDI stud?
And why not list the ARP part number?

Anyone could go in the tech section, grab some free tunes, and charge $445 for them, lol. I’d be really curious too see how and what they did.

Found these pictures of the VW studs Kit bought from Id Parts and identified as Volkswagen on a Jeep CRD on FB (hand tight prior to torquing)
I agree, part numbers would be nice to know!

Whoever put those studs in failed to follow instructions.

Just because the bolt/stud does not bottom out in the bolt hole does not mean that there is not enough thread engagement.

I think the performance between these studs and a PROPERLY INSTALLED VW stud would easily fall within normal statistical variation. AKA "NO Significant difference", but I welcome any proper attempt to prove me wrong.

We live and we learn, and if there is a better option, we all would love to know the very best option for our own Jeep CRD's when doing ANY modification....
Only reason I posted this!

I've bought a lot of them from lightning Motorsports. I'm headed down to my garage to compare the length of them to a stock bolt

He's selling snake oil, the thread engagement is full on the nut, and within 1mm of depth in the block to the factory bolts.
I'm soon to tear down a destroyed engine that lost all of its oil (they doubled oil filter gasket on accident). I put ARP's in it a while back, so I'll see what all that heat and destruction did to the block threads, but I bet they're fine :2cents:
Keep buying sets of 20 and passing the spares on to lost members is my advice

Thanks for you feedback!
And yes, please post your findings on the engine teardown, I am sure many on LOST would be interested in what you find...
