I ran across the link below, entered 2006 liberty CRD. It came up with "Based on what you've told us, your vehicle manufacturer recommends a 0W-40 or 5W-40 viscosity and oil that meets Chrysler MS-10725. We currently do not offer any motor oils in the United States that meet these specifications." I was planning on switching to Mobile One, now I'm wondering. It seems that a lot people use it. I'm just wondering. https://mobiloil.com/en/product-selecto ... VMKQ%3D%3D |

Chrysler MS-10725 has been superseded by MS-12633. See http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=86871 and many others. |

In hopes of getting in front of another endless oil debate. Forget what Mobil says; forget you ever heard of the semi-mythical MS-10725; and forget the Owner's Manual reference to API standard CF as both of the latter are at least a decade out of date. All you need to know is 1) use full synthetic oil; 2) 0W-40 or 5W-40 are both fine although I suspect most folks use 5W-40; and 3) see http://www.api.org/products-and-service ... categories for the proper API rating which MUST be stamped on whatever you buy (CI-4, CJ-4, or CK-4 are all fine - S and F ratings are not fine unless they also have one of the listed C ratings). A common choice is Shell Rotella T-6 5W-40 which is now CK-4 rated although some that's rated CJ-4 may still be on the shelf. There are other options that meet the listed criteria. |

Any synthetic 5W-40 oil as long as it is API rated CI-4, CJ-4, or CK-4 will be just fine in a Jeep diesel! If it is not synthetic and / or does not have one of the above API ratings, DON'T USE IT! Brands are immaterial! |

I finally saw rotella T6 0w-40 the the other day in the new bottle. I’ve never seen 0w locally before. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Well I have been using M1 0w-40 for mine with great success. I occasionally have Blackstone Labs do oil samples on my rigs and the last one I got said this: "Thanks for the email. It's hard to go too far wrong following the manufacturer’s directions, so even if the Mobil 1 0W/40 you used wasn't specifically marked as a "diesel" oil, it still got the job done. The viscosity was correct for 0W/40, and the additive package here (especially phosphorus and zinc, from ZDDP) is robust enough that we probably wouldn't have guessed that it wasn't a diesel oil if you hadn't said anything. In any case, wear metals look good (averages are based on ~6,700 miles of oil use), and no contaminants were found. Try 8,000-9,000 miles next." |
