Post subject:  current kj slider options?

I'm not finding any threads that are even close to being recent about slider options. Anyone know what the top 2 or 3 options are?
I just want a set mostly for my hi-lift jack, but I might hit a rock occasionally. I can't be the only one thinking about these right?

Bolt on options only please

AtTheHelm fabricates them for KK's. I think there would be some differences between the KK & KJ attachment points, but you could shoot him a PM and ask.

JBA has the 4XGuard Sliders but I bought them a month or so ago and have issues with the fitment. some of the holes in their parts dont line up with each other. I spent a few hours trying to get the bolts through the pinch welds before I took them off and realized that the holes in the guard itself and the holes in the bracket that sits behind the pinch weld were not properly aligned.

It would be an easy fix, I just need to elongate the holes 1/2" but i havent found the time. Just seems silly because they arnt cheap.

Dang, thanks for the report. That's lame. Are they any better than boulder bars? I hate wearing out drill bits, but our options are definitely limited

Did you bring this up to Marlin?

Good point, maybe they can fix them, or at least make sure people know before they buy.

Yes, I did. It may have just been a one off thing but since it seemed Mountainman might be buying soon I figured I would acknowledge it.

And thats not to say they are not nice. The guards seem to be extremely well built. The only issue was the angle iron that is used to back the pinch weld(the pinch weld is sandwiched between the guard and the angle iron "bracket" so that force applied to the guard is distributed) had the holes slightly off.

Not to defend Marlin or anything but I can say not all KJ's are build identical.I've installed alot of parts on KJ's(sliders, lifts, and aftermarket bumpers) and can say from personal experience some are way off compared to others(KJ's not the parts) that require slight modification.

I bought the 4xguard sliders because they replace the black plastic trim under the doors and seems to tuck up better then the more conventional sliders. There are other things under the jeep that hang lower so I dont know how much that matters. They seem well built but I haven't used them obviously.

The one downside I have heard about them is that they dont work as well as steps for putting things on the roof rack. They do hang out pretty far so you can certainly stand on them, and the instructions even recommend putting some of that 3m traction tape on them if you do intend too.

Oh I 100% believe you. But what I did was pull the sliders off and overlayed the bracket on top while it was sitting on the floor. There are 6 holes total, in 3 pairs of 2. When the front holes of the bracket were perfectly aligned with the front holes of the slider, the center holes of the bracket were far enough off of the slider holes that a bolt wouldnt slide through. The rear holes were better, but still not quite right.

Combine this with any slight alignment issue with the holes i drilled on the pinch weld and I couldnt get all of the bolts through. I could get 4 in, but not all 6. When I took the bracket off and only had to put the bolts through the pinch weld and slider, they went right in.

As I said, its not a huge deal, its just a matter of lengthening the holes a half inch or so.

Sounds like the 4x ones are the ones for me too, because one of my worries is that they won't look good. I like a utility look, but not a poor fitting scab, if that makes sense.

I have the JBA 4XGuard sliders too. I had similar fitment issues, but I got through it with by wallowing the holes with a good drill bit. I also don't think these are good as steps. I would rather have them stick out further and have a level surface to step on, or even tube welded on. In hindsight, I would have preferred to get them bare and weld some tube on.
