Here's the gig, the person that gets closest to the actual failure wins bragging rights on the CRD board! :pepper:

History, 06 CRD, 130K miles, original drivetrain (all fluids and filters changed regularly), GDE ECO tune for the last 65K miles, OEM before that. No shudder or bad sounds have ever been noticed. :JEEPIN:

Last week the daughter drove it to school and a couple of days later when she went to leave on an errand the Jeep made it about 200 yds and started having problems. When she called me she said the engine sounded fine, but the Jeep felt like it was in neutral. I had her run it thru all the gears and try them all...no change, I had her put it in in 4X4 and try driving, no change. I had her leave it alone and I came up and towed it back to our place. On inspection no fluid leak was visible, fluid was full, driveshaft was fine and engine was purring, but the darn thing would not move an inch.

The shop said they think they know the problem and will give me a full update tomorrow. What are your thoughts...I know what my first thought was! :furious:

Stopped at a KJ with no drive. Had been towed about 50 km from a beach where the problem occurred and was waiting for a friend to come 50 km with his car trailer. Had a play with the selector handle and decided the cable had come off the lever on the transfer case. Rolled underneath and reconnected. Selected 2wd and off went a satisfied customer. I bet yours is not this simple.

Transfer case cable came loose or torque converter died, or front pump in transmission croaked?

Does Chrysler engineering count as the failure?

Well I was hoping TJ would enter the fray, but we'll just have to see if he's been lurking...

According to the transmission shop:

" the transmission filter bolt backed out, allowing the filter to drop and disconnect the snorkel, which prevented any fluid from being pumped up from the pan." They reseated the filter, tightened the bolt and started it up and it seems to be doing fine now.... :dizzy:

Has anyone ever heard of this happening?? I'm not sure if the bolt was loose to begin with, or whether it was my foray into the mountains this Summer that caused it.

As for a winner, I propose a tie between:

mountainman ( he had the word bolt right!)
mass-hole (blame the engineer!)

I thought/hoped that it was the TC so I could talk the wife into a new one...C'est la vie

I heard of one person dropping the pan and finding the filter in it, but I think it fell as they dropped the pan because they didn't have any symptoms, just changing the fluid. I'm surprised it didn't smoke the pump!
