Hello all,
The electric fan in front of the condenser has stopped working. Does this have relays or fuses to control this? Is it activated by temperature or AC.?
The blower motor under the dash only works on 4 now, is this related to the front fan or a separate issue
When traveling in 110 degree temps. I think that the trans is slow to shift particularly down , does this have an oil cooler or does it need one?
Thanks,
Have a happy festive season
P.

The radiator fan is triggered by AC, coolant, and I believe trans temp. There are two relays in the under hood fuse box, one for low, one for high speed. If you unplug either one the fan should turn on.

The blower motor issue is likely due to a bad resistor.

How about trans oil temp does it need a cooler?

It has a cooler. It’s built into the bottom 1/4 of the AC condenser.

Guess then that without the electric fan working trans oil temp could get high

You can add an additional cooler if you want. But unless you are towing something it really isnt necessary.

If you suspect a transmission problem, check the fluid.

When was the last time the trans fluid and filter were changed?

Fixing the electric fan will help with AC performance and may help with transmission cooling.
But what about your engine drive fan? Fan clutch still working?

To be honest I havnt checked but I assume it is because I did another 1000 miles at an average of 55mph. after I discovered the electric one not working. The engine only got above normal operating on big climbs if I tried to use the ac.
Overall I am pleased and surprised how well the little jeep did the job

Were you towing? The electric fan won’t do crap at 55, but you shouldn’t have been overheating with a working mechanical fan unless it was very hot outside.

yes about 2 ton and yes about 110 degrees out.
temp only rose on the hard pulls where I was in second and about 20MPH.

Had a drive between last post and this one and I now think I may have another problem. On any sort of acceleration I am getting clouds of black exhaust smoke so something in the engine management system may have gone wrong
