 Post subject: transmission not shifting into OD when cold

10* outside. I have a feeling it is programed that way to help warm up the engine and trany fluid. at least that's what I hope. tranny fluid and filters changed 15000 miles ago.

I think you are correct. Trans won't shift to OD until the fluid temp reached a certain value. Not sure what that temp is though.

You are correct: even here in the mostly warm south, if the ambient temperature drops overnight in the winter months into the low 30's or into the 20's, the transmission will not shift into 5th OD on a cold start at first driving until the transmission fluid warms up a bit.... :roll:

It's a Chrysler thing. All the Dodge trucks I have had done the same thing, none of the GM or Ford trucks that I have owned do it. It can be annoying, especially when it gets cold -30 to -40c.
