USE GOOGLE INSTEAD.

You will have far more effective results locating useful threads than you will using "Lost Jeeps" internal 'Search' tab.
As many of us have discovered, even extensive experimentation using keywords yields comparatively disappointing results.

Not intended as a jab at the host, moderators or forum.
It is what it is. Google has invested gazillions of work-hours and $$$ creating and refining the planet's premier search-engine.
The fact that they exceed this forum's internal search-engine in accuracy, volume, speed and relevance is hardly shocking.
Stating that fact is not a slight against this board*.

There are appropriate times for modesty and deference and, in this instance of search-effectiveness, LJ should concede defeat.
In the interest of responsibly guiding forum members to a more enjoyable (and less aggravating) "Lost Jeeps" experience, a STICKY should advise accordingly:
"USE GOOGLE INSTEAD"

*I have no financial interest in Google

This is how you do it:
paste the below text string into your search bar or search block, then replace "add key search test here" between the exclamation marks with your key search words and then click on search or depress the enter button.

"add key search text here" site:www.lostjeeps.com/forum/

Note: works on most all browsers, not just Google!
It limits the search to just LOST Jeeps!
Use it all the time and works great!!!!
Super Fast!

I appreciate your response, but it left me a bit confused.
It took a few tries, but now I think I take your lead:
- Write your area of interest in normal-sentence fashion
- Don't use any quotation marks, " " , or the word 'site'.
This is precisely what I just successfully searched on StartPage:

DIY ecu cable w w w .lostjeeps.com/forum/

(NOTE: strictly for demonstration within this thread, I had to insert spaces between "w-w-w"; otherwise, LJ's posting-algorithm auto-inserts " http://". You can search using unspaced "... www ...)

THAT worked pretty well.
And you make the excellent point that Google is not a monotheistic deity!

So; the STICKY should advise members to:

" USE AN OUTSIDE SEARCH-ENGINE, TYPE-IN YOUR AREA OF INQUIRY FOLLOWED SEPARATELY BY W W W.LOSTJEEPS.COM/FORUM/ "

Works for me just as I stated, may be somewhat different as you point out for others!

I put this in the search bar for Chrome exactly as written including the " "s and the word site:
"ac switch" site:www.lostjeeps.com/forum/
it converts it to this exact search string when I hit the enter button

Code:
https://www.bing.com/search?q=%22ac+switch%22+site%3Awww.lostjeeps.com%2Fforum%2F&PC=U316&FORM=CHROMN

and returns the requested results!
Different browsers may handle it slightly different???

Okay.
But I gather that you are in agreement that a STICKY by mods advising members that it is more effective to use an OUTSIDE search-engine would be beneficial?

To clarify the use of the quotes in the above search string a bit: encasing your Google search terms in quotes means that Google searches for the exact phrase contained within the quotes. For example:

"ac switch" (with quotes) will return results containing the exact phrase 'ac switch'.

ac switch (no quotes) will return results containing either 'ac' or 'switch' or both.

It can be useful to play around with quotes to fine-tune your searches. Other search engines may have similar behaviour; I just went with Google as an example since they and DuckDuckGo are pretty much the only two search engines I tend to use.

casm; you are dead on! I just figured in today's times most would be cognisant of limiting searches using quotes (" "), &, or + operators!
I always use the quotes " "s to narrow the finds to exact threads containing the subject matter and not have to read through a bunch of unwanted items...and it works great!

I bookmark this URL, and replace "SEARCH_TERMS" with what I'm searching for:

This web forum is terrible. Can’t search, can’t post pics, those are two of the most important functions on a forum imo. But, nobody seems to agree so that’s just my opinion and worth what you paid for it.

Just call it like I see it, no offense to those here or the valuable info that I do enjoy, but it’s a shame it’s sitting in this location, that’s all. Things can always be better

Tip:
Use Google search, it works.
Paste the below search string into your browser search bar and change the "addtexhere" (keep the " ") to whatever word or term you are searching for.
"addtexthere" site:www.lostjeeps.com/forum/

very fast!

On some other sites there is a link for a google search. The site gets a commission (small) from google when ever it gets used. Its a good way to help pay the running costs of the site. Anything to help keep the site pay for its self!
