Post subject:  Broken Transmission Fill Tube (Dip Stick Tube)
It seems my trans dip stick tube is broken off just above what looks to be a bracket holding it on to somewhere.
Ever heard of something like this?
It is very hard to see back there, let alone how to access it. Tried all kind of ways.
Parts diagram shows a bolt going through the bracket, but not to where.
Could not find one, but does anybody have a pic of the back of the engine and trans on the right side that shows the orientation of the bracket and the bolt and where it goes?
Your help greatly appreciated. TIA. And I wish I was 6" tall right about now.

I recall several people having that same issue, and nearly as many solutions to dealing with it.
IIRC the bolt is one of the transmission bellhousing mounting bolts on the right side near where the crankshaft position sensor heat shield is located.

No pics, but it attaches to a bellhousing bolt.
You would likely have to unbolt the transmission mount and drop it down a bit to access the bolt and remove the tube.

Mine is broken too.
Happened a couple years ago.
I just replaced the broken piece with some rubber hose and clamped it in place.

On one engine swap I managed to leave the fill tube off. Big mistake! They are extremely difficult to install with the engine in. I would do what flash did if you can :2cents:

Thanks fellas. I'll see what I am going to do.
Just getting frustrated with inaccessibility by design.
BTW-was thinking of replacing Glow Plugs next.

you can change it as is, however it is on the hardest bell housing bolt to get at, I did mine, lots of swearing and couldn't feel my arms for a couple days after. LOL.

i just redid more TC and made the mistake of putting everything back up without sequencing the fill tube, so i did get it back in over the top and down in but you do need to lower the trans and pull it aside slightly with a ratchet strap, it takes a bit of finagling but its very doable, i lost like 2 hours doing it

New dipstick tube is in. A real biotch.
Definitely need to lower the trans crossmember 2.5" and move the rear of the trans over to the left.
Also helps to disconnect the trans cooler lines.
Still, a struggle to get the new tube in without bending or tweeking it.
Now, the new tube needs a support up top to prevent vibration induced fracture again.
