In the mail the other day was an offer to buy the extended warranty from Jeep. I didn't know they did that. I figured that was a do it when you buy or forget it deal. I'm really considering it even though my 05 has 70k powertrain. I think DC will resolve most of the issues eventually, but it may be rough in the mean time for some. The downside of an extended warranty for me is that I bought mine out of state. I've checked out 4 local dealers, and there is only one I'd have confidence in. An extended warranty is only as good as the dealer you can find to honor it, and I haven't tested those waters yet.

I get extended warranty offers for my Impala all the time. It was very pricey, guess they figure if you are buying an extended a year or two into ownership there must be a reason. If you want it, need to get it done before you hit certain mileage thresholds. Curious if they gave any prices for the CRD?

Look around online to find better deals on the warranties. You can get the same Chrysler warranties for a lot less from dealers that sell online.

put the money in an interest earning account .... you'll be better off ... I just got one a few weeks ago myself and was amazed at the total cost .... they really don't sell these to lose money.

extended warranties are where the dealers make a significant profit.

With that said, when we bought our CRD, her 'selling' point was that 'Jeeps have lots of high-tech parts.' No chit sherlock, every car nowadays has high tech parts.

12 plans in total from 5/70 "added care" $963 to start all the way to 7/100 "maximum care" for $2546.60. The price list doesn't differentiate between CRD and gas, but it does list my VIN - so they weren't flying blind. I'm still under 6k miles, but the enrollment doesn't ask for mileage. I've only owned it three months.

If you really want the extended warranty, go back to the dealer (or any Jeep dealer) and negotiate the price. The price you got in the mail is the "rack" rate and is high. The first thing the business manaager told me is that they do not negotiate on the extended warranties. About 7 seconds later when I told him that I would look on the web/GEICO for a warranty, the price came down 25%. Later during back and forth with the salesman, the price dropped another 25%. Long warranties are just a profit booster for the dealer, don't let them screw you.

The CRD does cost more. If you go online to other dealers with better rates you can see this. You add a certain amount over the base rate for a diesel plus another for 4x4. I just priced a 100K Powertrain for mine and it was $900 online.

I have the 7/100 maxcare, was @$1200 when I purchased the Jeep. From what I have seen from this vehicle, they would have to pay me the $2546.60 or more to cancel. This thing is going to be ugly expensive to maintain out of warranty.
