Looks like I have run into the same problem.
Not sure what went wrong. Same computer, cable, and software that I’ve used many times before.

I guess I’ll try getting a new cable.

The MPPS cable is only good for so many reads and writes. Is it possible you have exceeded this amount and it is "chyneez" enough to not have the programming to tell you it is expired?

Got the new MPPS cable today and immediately tried it out.
Same result.
So the problem is not the cable.

Not sure what went wrong but I screwed it up good.

I have a spare ECM but have to get the vin changed somehow.

I have issues with the pins on the OBD2 port, anything I plug in there works randomly sometimes. I suggest you attempt to write multiple times, cycle key, exit MPPS software and reseat the cable on both ends, before each attempt.

What do you see in the MPPS software when you try to write?

There's hope. Is the same error I get when, for any reason, the write fails. Usually it works after a couple of attempts and I believe it is related to the OBD2 port in the car, lose contact or something. Try to play with the wires behind the port, check that all the pins look good, reseat the cable and test, hopefully you will recover.

First time I saw that was kind of gut-wrenching for me as well.
I haven't figured out what exactly it's problem is, but some combination of key off-on, re-connecting cable ends, and restarting the program has (so far) always worked.
