Don't want to get into all of the details just yet, but time constraints meant sending the CRD in to a shop to have some work done.

Driving back this evening, I got hit with what I believe is limp mode and it won't come out of it. Unfortunately, I collected it at the end of the day and by the time this happened the shop was closed, so I couldn't turn it around and take it back. Got to drive it for about 15 miles like this as a result.

Symptoms are: reluctance to rev over 2500rpm, barely makes it to 3000rpm, getting to 70mph takes forever.

Only codes are for the disconnected MAF sensor and EGR. Those are expected as there's a Weeks Kit (Stage 1 & 2) installed.

Before I get into what exactly was done in the way of work, can I please have a sanity check that this is, indeed, limp mode.

The rpm constraints sound like LHM. It won't shift past 3rd gear either, if it's LHM.

Whenever mine went to limp home mode, there's no way it would reach 70mph without dropping it from altitude.

Also If you have stg 1&2 Weeks, you should be able to plug the MAF back in without problem.

EGR and FCV codes can be addressed via free tunes.

Once these codes are addressed, perhaps something else will surface?

Thanks for that; the symptoms match.

Forgot that the Stage 1 & 2 Weeks kit allowed reconnection of the MAF sensor; I'll give that a shot and see if there's any change. I doubt it, but it's easy enough to do.

Good question. The tunes I've run haven't eliminated the CEL for the EGR & FCV, but I may not be using the right ones.

I would check the connection on your air temp sensor. They are fragile. The shop could have possibly not connected it properly or broke it and it disconnected when you were driving it.

Fair enough. Where is this one located?

In other news: plugged the MAF back in; no change.

Did pull some codes unrelated to the MAF:

P1189 (Engine Oil Pressure Switch Circuit)
P1140 (rear oxygen sensor)
P1186 (rear oxygen sensor)

My money's on the oil pressure switch being a more likely culprit for limp mode kicking in, though I wouldn't discount other ideas. Doubt the oxygen sensors would trigger it.

It is the only other connector besides the MAF on the air box on the right side when facing the engine. I experienced the same symptoms that you describe and the connector to the air temp sensor was the problem. I had to use a zip tie to keep it connected because the plastic retaining piece broke off since it is now brittle.

P1189 is for the small sensor on the side of the air box lid.

Also, the CRD doesn’t have oxygen sensors.

Symptoms sound much like when the one CAC hose blew off on my Export 2002 2.5 CRD......no power and would not rev very high but if I remember correctly there was also a fair amount of black smoke!

This is the sensor you need to check and make sure it's plugged in good and making a good connection:
It is on the side of the top half of the air box / air filter cover.

If it has gone bad, this is the PN:
IAP sensor - 05101120AB (pressure sensor on side of airbox)
air inlet air pressure comparator pressure sensor on the side of the air box; referred to as the Mercedes sensor

Well, for everyone who guessed intake air pressure sensor, award yourself a cigar. Found the connector dangling below it at lunch, plugged it back in, and all is now well.

Thanks for the help on this - even with a flashlight, I was unable to spot it in the dark last night, and really did not want to take it back to the shop if it could be avoided. They and I are not on the best of terms after this particular set of work.

Yep. But Torque displays the code as failure of the oxygen sensor on Bank 1, Sensor 2. It was confusing to me, also.

I didn't get the P1189 either when mine was not connected properly. That is what made it a little difficult to diagnose.
