Slipped timing belt got me in here, broken glow plug took me further. Rockers had no damage, but I'm replacing anyways. Really having a hard time spending more money, but definitely going to change head gasket and bolts. With no signs of other engine problems, i don't think I'll do head studs, but i might do the weeks 1&2. What would you guys choose?

Here's my :2cents:

Since the head is coming off anyway, go with the ARP studs and 2 hole gasket.
The WEEKS can be easily done later when you save the money up, and without complete engine disassembly, and there are alternatives to bandaid the EGR problem until then.

Your call, but since you already have the head coming off, I very very highly recommend having a machine shop replace (at least) the exhaust valves, and check the intakes for concentricity, and re-lap. (Especially if you are planning to keep it long term.)

If you were going in only as far as rockers, and there are no known head gasket or possible in-cylinder issues, I would recommend the WEEKS first.

I second the studs first, great insurance against future problems, and there are other options out there to delete the egr without spending a dime.

Since you are replacing the rockers, replace the head bolts with the ARP head studs one at a time while you are in there that deep.
Install instructions are covered on this forum. > viewtopic.php?p=916715#p916715

As to the EGR delete, as others have recommended, plan to do the Weeks Elbow Kit later down the road when funds are available, it is certainly worth the money as it allows you to completely remove the EGR system and all of its ancillary parts.
In in the meantime, block it off with a block-off-plate that can be home made out of a piece of sheet metal or the top of a soup or vegetable can . Cost $0.00

Thanks for the input guys but looks like I've got bigger problems after pulling the head. Blown piston? Everything looked fine tearing down to this point, maybe some rust around the water pump... I've got more reading and research to do in the forum. To be continued... thanks guys

Define “blown piston.”

Most of the time, pistons get damaged by broken glow plugs or destroyed by broken valves.

Don't know how to post pictures. This should probably start a new thread...
Myself the shade tree mechanic who has never been this far into an engine before thinks in must be a head gasket failure. Cylinder one is disintigrated and rusted, cylinder 2 looks burnt. 3 and 4 look normal. Maybe glow plug was broken before i tried to remove it? Sleeves and new pistons? Myself or shop? Used engine? Need to discuss what is cost effective with my wife. Get another crd and service it with all the parts i already bought!

If you want some help, I've done the timing belt twice and my rockers once on my jeep. I'm in riverside.

Omg. Another CRD in CA! Thank you. Trying to figure out what to do with it waiting for a quote from OC Diesel for pistons and sleeves. Nobody will touch it...

The works not to hard, just time consuming. Make sure to watch all of the online videos. It will help. How far have you tore the engine down?
