Anyone find a more readily available idler pulley assembly to sub the stock ones for. I'd have to order and wait for new ones. The prices aren't that great either.

Somewhere in this mass of information I came across a post where someone drilled the halves apart, replaced just the bearing inside, and re-assembled the halves with small high grade machine screws.

Perhaps the person who posted it knows where it is, or someone else that catalogues this kind of thing would have it handy.

Yeah I saw on the Ausjeepoffroad site I think that the belt idler pulleys have a commonly used bearing which can be obtained from Timken or other places and is easily fitted. The tensioner pulley uses the same bearing but is fitted in place with rivets. These rivets can be drilled out and replaced with some short quality screws and nuts with Locktight.

I intend doing this some time and already have a new Serpentine belt....just concerned about also replacing the alternator clutch pulley as it is showing some red dust.....need to get the newer pulley which is grease packed but need to make up some special tools to remove and replace this clutch pulley :?

serpentine belt idlers (2) 5066938AA or newer # 68211444aa - alternative NAPA 36101 (just lose the big washer) or Precision Parts EP101 or possibly check NAPA 36141; alternatives will have acceptable but slight different diameter and/or thickness than stock. For split into half and install new bearing see Serpentine belt idler pulley repair by Camo in my tech tips PDF at http://colorado4wheel.com/manuals/Jeep/KJ/

Excellent Guys, Thanks

Mine are a bit corroded. I could clean them up and paint them but it is bad enough I am going to try the NAPA subs first. I will let you know how that works out. If it goes badly, maybe I can just use the new Napa pulley's bearings in the old ones. I will at least know they are proper spec and sealed, assuming they are the same size.
