our heep is getting air in the fuel lines still, even after installing a carter intank lift pump. it splutters when idling along in first and it's worse in reverse. before installing the in tank lift pump, after a days driving around town every morning before going out when i bled the filter head a heap of air came out. now after installing the in tank lift pump i get no air out of the filter head but yet it still splutters the same when idling along in first and it's worse in reverse. does anyone have any suggestions? am i up for a new cp3? it's only done 135xxx klms. |

Well if you're not getting air from the bleeder, you've solved one issue, only it was not the original source of your spluttering problem. The CP3 while possible, is very highly unlikely. Is your "check engine light" on? Most things that can cause this problem will throw a DTC code. Have someone with a good scanner check for codes. Are you getting carbon smoke from the tailpipe? If so, check the connector to the Fuel Quantity Solenoid at the rear of the CP3. If the connector comes off, or signal fails to operate here, it will default to maximum fuel flow, and the Fuel Pressure Solenoid on the rail will be overwhelmed, causing fuel rail pressure to deviate wildly. Other things can cause spluttering as well, but I would look there first. |

This doesn't seem like a air in fuel problem. Most likely a loose connection either at the fuel quantity solenoid or at the fuel rail pressure sensor. Either one should set a code. With the engine idling, wiggle the connector the fuel rail pressure sensor connector to see if the sputtering gets worse. Then do the same as the fuel quantity solenoid. I've had to replace the connectors on both. |

engine light is always on. I'll get it scanned again, thanks for the info gents I'll look into it. |

Find someone that can do a smoke test on it. It will help track down where the leak might be. |

I have similar problem. It is improved after lift pump but still some sputter. I am showing p0299. Could this cause p0299? |

No, Fuel pressure/delivery is a separate system from intake boost pressure. P0299 usually has something to do with the vacuum system / solenoid controls for the turbo, stuck turbo vanes or linkage, Boost pressure leaks between the turbo and the engine. Something blocking airflow between the air filter and intake manifold. Or something sensor related, like the MAP sensor being clogged, or an electronic communication problem. No, if the lift pump were causing low boost, there would be many more and greater indicators of a bad lift pump. |
