Picked this scanner up yesterday at a local Pawn Shop to add to my arsenal. Price was right and he discounted it even further when I pushed him a little.
Actron Autoscanner Plus CP9690 Elite
Made by Bosch, has lots of neat functions including auto detect, live data graphing, and drive cycle along with all the other standard functions.

Got the full kit with all adaptors and a case. (does OBDI & OBDII)
Might not be the greatest one for some applications, but it did not cost 3k.
I do plan to use it on other vehicles, not just the Jeep CRD.
Thoughts, feedback welcome, good or bad.

The snap on mt2500 last update was 2005 and it’s a great tool for OLDER vehicles , we have one at my shop for just that, we mainly use it on pre OBD2. It’s commonly called the brick.

I have a mt2500, but it is not any good for later model vehicles.
I also have OBDLink MX+ that I use with a Samsung Galaxy Tablet with Torque Pro and the software that came with the OBDLink MX+.
What I really want is a scanner with bi-directional control like a Solus Ultra, but 4k is a little much for something that will set on a shelf most of the time. :banghead:
As to the Actron CP9690 Elite AutoScanner Kit, I could not pass it up due to the low price. Time will tell if it is viable or not.

Look into the launch throttle, we just bought one last year, we have the snap on and Autel and launch and the oem tools but the launch was 3k tax and all from Autozone (with my discount) and it has great bidirectional controls... only way to go with modern diagnosis

Looking for any updates, for scan tools specific to an 06 Liberty CRD. Not a multi vehicle use tool, something that I can use to read as much as possible on the 06 CRD without having 100 other vehicles it would need to work on. Is the torque pro enough for a backyard guy, that really wants to make sure I can check everything possible? I do not ever want to take these to a dealership or mechanic. I have 2 CRD's and may someday get another, and want to be prepared to work on my own stuff.

Also, question number 2. Would it be beneficial to just purchase a J2534 Pass thru device, for example a Controller Technologies Pulsar for $495, and then just use a subscription service when needed?
Not worried about the cost at this point, just trying to get any information someone else with experience in this area would have. if I'm kicking out 2K for something, I can go days and days with a subscription when needed and not quite reach that investment amount for a long time.

Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks

One of the better options currently available right now and highly praised by some of the YouTube diagnostic technicians is the Think Tool Pro.
It will perform Bi-Directional +ECU Coding and comes with 2 years of free updates.
They currently come in several different model levels with different options and price ranges.

I personally cannot attest to their actual capabilities on 05/06 Jeep CRDS as I don't own one yet. (Would love to have one! :( )

I have a Actron CP9690 Elite AutoScanner, it does ok, but is only good for scanning & diagnostics. It will not perform Bi-Directional or ECU Coding.
I also have a Bluetooth OBDII Link that I can use for graphing and real time data point monitoring on a Android Galaxy Note.

Hopefully some others will chime in and offer their experience with scanners on an 06.
I know some on here have reported of scanner data lockups after a short time of data monitoring due to data bus overload.
I have never experienced a lockup.

Here is a video of the think tools pro in use on a liberty CRD.
https://youtu.be/WQmODN8zyyY

But I think we need to come up with a list of the bi-directional functions we need.
For me it would be.
-reset TCM trim values
-recode keys
-read TCM codes
-read ABS codes and data
-maybe recode BCM to turn off seat belt chimes and things like that.

Also some of these require an annual subscription for each brand of car so you have access to the bi-directional functions.

Is there a list somewhere of what the kj CRD's are even capable of? Like BCM can command horn on off ect. I doubt it's very long.
