This thread is to report on what tools work for the CRD and for what functions. This way others can get a tool that is known to be compatible. If you have personal knowledge of a tool, and what works and what doesn't please respond, preferably with a link to the tool.

If you have not tested a tool personally, or cannot report on a specific tool, please refrain from posting generic information. EG, we all know about the wifi and bluetooth readers available, but unless you can recommend a specific model and what works and doesn't work in that model lets avoid the clutter.

First and foremost, the big daddy, the DRBIII. This is the factory tool that fully supports EVERYTHING on a 2005 KJ. Reprogram Keys, ECUs, etc. It's also old, expensive, and very hard to come by.

DRBIII:
2005 MY - Full Support.
2006 MY - ABS and BCM modules NOT supported by DRBIII. All other modules supported.

Autel MD802:
2005/2006 - Full Diagnostic support. Is able to read data from all modules, interface is like a clone of DRBIII. Can read data, codes, and reset all modules such as ECM, TCM, ABS, BCM, OCM, etc. CANNOT reprogram anything that the DRBIII can, EG cannot program keys, remotes, etc.

Thank you Sir Sam.
Timely information. My code scanner went on the blink, and i was searching for a replacement.

My Autel 608BT does everything the MD802 will besides any programming.

Any Snapon scanner fully reads CRD's(I have the Solus Pro and Modus Pro).

My sister got me one of these last December.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NCEXGXF/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

IIRC she got it on an Amazon Lightening Deal for $16.

I was used to my brother's Snap-On, and I thought this would be completely useless, but it has surprised me.

ON MY CRD:
It DOES NOT read or clear ABS codes
It DOES NOT read or clear SRS codes
It DOES NOT read past P0700 transmission codes, but it WILL clear the P0700 when the issue is resolved.
So far, IT DOES read and clear all other Powertrain P-# CODES
IT DOES read and freeze some live data, but is not programmable for which items.

If that's all you need, It's a surprisingly good value.

I have an Innova 3030A, so far it has done everything I needed.
I know it is not the most intuitive one available, but for the money it has sufficed so far.....
Would love to have a much nicer one, but the costs are prohibitive....
Now if anyone has a DRBIII they want to sale cheap, let me know....

Could you be more specific? Does it read ABS, BCM, TCM, OCM, SRS, etc?

No, it is very limited, mainly reads ECM issues and some ABS. Not sure about some of the others. It's a simple code reader and basic diagnostic tool, but it did not cost an arm and a leg!

I have a launch x431 pro 3, it reads every module on the Liberty but live data does not work. The documents say it will program Injector codes and write skim but they also do not work. I have changed bcm settings for door chime, headlights flashing when locking etc. Also have done transmission relearns. It would be a great tool if the live data worked and coding also worked on the crd.

Anyone try the Micropod II? I snagged a knock off and couldn’t get it’s to connect to the Jeep but I don’t know if it was a software issue.

I have the Autel DS808: https://www.amazon.com/Autel-DS808-Auto ... s808&psc=1

In my 2006 Liberty, it scans and clears codes from ECM, TCM, BCM, ABS, and some others. It cannot reset tire size. It can access tire size and change it in the BCM, but then the speedo goes haywire. I think there is a second place in the ABS that also need to be set, and I can't access it.

Yes, tire size must be set in ABS computer and BCM.

I use a maxi das d708, originally got it for my 08 GC overland to read FDCM codes relate to service 4wd messages. I have not used it a lot but it seems to have a lot of capability. I did use it to program the second key fob for my 06 crd but I had the 4 digit pin. It also programmed the security key for my 99 GC, but not the fob.

Took all 5 jeep titles to the local dealer service (Corydon IN) while working on my old 99 GC with ECM issues. I was looking for the pin on the 99 and they told me to bring in the title and they would pull it so I brought them all 5 in a folder. They were not busy that day and pulled all pins and key cut codes at no charge.

I have used the md708 on a 95xj to find bad coil, 99GC, 08GC, 2 different 06 Liberty crd a sport and a limited, 03 Liberty Renegade 3.7, a 2008 ram truck, a 2005 durango, a 99 oldsmobile to diagnose brake issues and traction control and to identify a bad evap valve on a 08 chevy silverado truck. Also used it to test the tpms receivers on both the GC and crd liberty, it can see the tire sensor id's and program the spares.

I used it tonight to check the boost on one daughters Liberty crd and to scan for other issues after replacing a faulty low pressure switch on the ac. Off topic, she passed the nurse practitioner APRN licence test today

I also used it on my other daughters Mercedes e320 6 cylinder common rail to diagnose the fuel system that had a bad injector. The Mercedes really worked well with it and in less than 10 minutes I was able to find the fault.

I really like the md708, it keeps me away from the dealer shop.

Also have a obdstar f104 and it will pull the 4 digit pin codes out of the ecm on 08 and up chrysler as well as reprogram the odometer cluster to correct miles if you replace it with a junkyard one.

I have a ScanGauge2 (software version 4.06). Its a basic code reader and also displays real-time digital "gauges" from the sensor data when driving. It works well enough for reading/clearing codes, but the real-time sensor data only works for so long on the CRD until the vehicle kicks the device off the bus or the TCM goes offline (haven't had this one happen to me yet). Funny that the device manufacturer's website shows the Liberty CRD as one of the only vehicles listed as an "exception" for compatibility. Works great in my '98 XJ though.

On a related note...…...does the DRBIII allow programming/configuring the EVIC to enable the individual TMPS? Or any other "factory options" for that matter?

Found this when looking around online.

http://www.networkvehicle.com/products/drb-iii-emulator

The Controller Technologies Corporation DRB III Emulator is the exact scan tool software application used in Chrysler, Jeep, and Dodge dealerships to service non-CAN based vehicles from 1998-2007. The DRB III Emulator software application now runs on your personal computer and interfaces with our custom DRB III+ hardware device to enable all the functions of the original Chrysler DRB III Scan Tool and more. This software package even comes with non-powertrain ECU programming files to enable reflashing everything from BCMs to sliding door modules.

Expensive but cheaper than an original DRB III I saw for sale on ebay.

The good news is they also rent them. :D

I finally got around to working with my knockoff MicroPod II.

I got the DRBIII emulator working to connect to my 2005, but I don't have a 2006 so it remains untested on 2006, however the 2006 has native support under the witech, so I don't think that should be an issue.

I think someone on this board had used a Solus before, but don't remember who. I believe it could do a lot of things but still not close to the dealer scan tool.

Would like something that works with the CRD and my LBZ Duramax possibly my 2014 Cruze Diesel too.
Currently have a MT2500 and would like to find some 2006 cartridges for it or possibly upgrade to a version of the solus that's updated thru '14.

Thanks, missed that.
Sucks having to do most searching on phone, no Internet available at new house.
Don't even think dialup would work. :(
