I suspect the ECM on my 06 is bad. it died while driving and would not restart. no crank. SKIM light is on but no check engine light. unable to connect with scan tool so I took it to the stealership... of course they had no clue. I haven't gotten it towed back from them yet but I came across a post saying if the ECM is replaced, it needs to be reflashed with the VIN. Question? Can i reflash the ECM myself with the GDE programmer which i have? I also have the DIY programmer, maybe that will work? I haven't checked anything besides the fuses on the jeep. I highly doubt the dealer checked anything else. the service report said they could not communicate with ECM, TCM, ABS |

Your going to need a reflash from dealer or someone with starscan or equivalent. Or a member here can do it, believe it requires a new skim module. |

If your ECU is bad the replacement will need to be programmed to your vehicle using a DRBIII, or starscan, or witech. This requires VERY specialized equipment. I recently made a video showing the process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLIqALEaN4I I'm also not saying a bad ECU is your problem either, not enough information to make that call from your original post. |

Yeah give us some more information please....the ECM is pretty robust and does not fail easily. A new ECM needs to have the VIN code and the SKIM code programmed in as well as injector parameters etc. Does the Red SKIS LED on left of the cluster stay ON when ignition is turned ON....should go off after a few seconds and should not flash. Do ignition lamps came ON when key is turned but starter motor does not turn over? This could be the famous Actuator Pin Assembly Broken issue.....you can remove the Starter Relay and briefly jumper female pins inside the socket 30 to 87 while in Park or Neutral and key is in its normal ignition slot....this overrides the ignition switch, Park and Neutral interlocks....engine should turn over provided Fuse # 8 (40A) is OK. Does it turn over in Neutral instead of Park? Try swap over the the Starter relay and ASD relay with identical ones nearby. If the SKIS light stays ON and the engine turns over but does not fire....remove the ASD relay and jumper female pins 30 and 87 together inside the relay socket....this overides an ASD Relay connection problem. The 2006 CRD has a known problem with the Fuel Filter Head Mounting Bracket clamping down on the wire harness against the bulkhead....remove this bracket and check the wire harness behing it for any damage. Is your battery fully charged, the battery terminals clean and tight, the negative battery lead clean and tight where it goes to chassis and the grounding strap from engine to chassis clean and tight both ends? |

It would be highly unusual for an ECM to just crap out while driving down the road unless some other outside issue played into it like a major short circuit or total loss of communication to the ECM... Bet there is some other problem at work here? |
