My 05 crd had what seems to be a major engine failure. The engine suddenly started vibrating seriously, lost power, then quit. Now seems to be frozrn and wont even turn over. R.I.P. @ 210,000 miles. I'm going to miss it. Bought a Subaru Forester to commute with till i figure out next steps. Bummer.

Based on your description, I’d say you either lost oil pressure or dropped a valve.
Or maybe it’s just a broken timing belt.
You will never know for sure until you start taking the engine apart.

If you don’t plan to fix the engine, you could start parting it out.

Has a relatively new timing belt, only about 4 months old. I didn't notice any drop in oil pressure.

The engine does have some goodies on it: weeks kit, etc - so maybe I'll part it out.

Part it out or post it up for sale for someone to fix or part.

Undecided what i'll do with it. Love to tear it down and see what happened, but i dont see that amount of spare time in the near future. I think i need to sit on it a few weeks and think about it. If i decide to part it out or sell it, i will let everyone know.

I know what it feels like to never have enough time. My whole life feels like a balancing act lately. However, if you're prepared and diligent, you can have the engine torn down to the cylinders in a day. Just have some sorting bins and labels handy to organize as you go. With the expectation that you'll find some serious damage, don't worry about cleaning at this point, just unbolt parts as fast as you can and make sure you take enough notes to know how to put it back together if you need to. In a day you can determine the extent of the damage and decide how to proceed. You won't have anything invested in parts at this point and if the damage is too much for you to repair yourself, there are plenty of people around who would be willing to buy it (for cheap, of course) and do the work themselves. We all, of course, encourage everyone to tackle these issues and get their ride going again if possible. It is a great feeling to do work like this yourself and, although potentially expensive, can save you a lot of money vs buying a new car or ANOTHER Jeep later down the road.

Do what feels right for you, but you have a great resource here to help if you decide to dig into it. Don't be afraid to ask for help!

I am in Port Orchard, WA and may be interested in what you have. Just curious, what color is your jeep?

It is black, body sound and no damage, paint good. Has weeks kit and samco hoses. About 210,000 miles. Leather seats, although the drivers seat is torn. Both seats are power adjustable. New rear u-joints and alternator (about 6 months old). Also have a new aftermarket volt meter and tranny temp gauges that i never installed, with an A-pillar pod for them. Make me an offer.

I'd like to get $500 for it. Tires are very good, has samco hoses, weeks kit, straight body. Is a 2005 CRD Limited, black. 205000 miles, but with a tanked motor. The parts in it are easily worth that much, but i dont want to part it out - rather just sell the whole thing.

OK... I"ve made the decision to bail on the CRD. I'm not interested in parting it out, because I don't want it taking up space in my driveway. I'll sell the whole thing for $500, you pick it up. Info about it: 205,000 miles. Engine doesn't run. It had been running fine, then suddenly the engine started vibrating and lost power. I had it towed to the shop but they said it would be too expensive to dismantle and diagnose. It would start then and could be driven into and out of the shop, but at this point the engine won't turn over. I don't know what is wrong and I don't have time to fix it.

It is a 2005 Liberty CRD Limited. Here is the stuff you'd get from it, in addition to all the 'Limited' goodies like power seat bases and trim pieces. Samco hoses. Weeks kit. Tires with plenty of life on them (new at 185,000). Alternator and rear u-joints less than a year old. Water pump and timing belt about 3 months old. Plus a whole bunch of spare parts. Black, straight body, no rust. If I can figure out how to post pictures, I'll add a few.

I'll keep the posting here for a week or two, then I'll post on Craigslist; I want to have it out of the driveway before the end of the summer. Message me if you are interested.

Yeah... I see that now... sorry; I am tired and not paying attention.

I just might go and get this... I have distant relatives living in the area.
