Hi I have an 05 crd with a noisy front driveshaft rear position cv joint. I just found Detroit axel complete shaft with cv joints for $139 free shipping on eBay. Was wondering if anyone had any thought on Detroit axel or the Dorman kit which I read is an import.
According to the seller of Detroit axel “ their made in the good USA”
Thank you in advance.

The one they sold me had the grease boot on the same end you are having problems with, completely fail in 110 miles. I bought lower ball joints from them as well. Out of the 8 they sent, I finally got 2 usable ones. One grease-able as advertised. One not... (same as stock), but I used it anyway as I was tired of dealing with their garbage.
I recommend stay away from the cheap stuff at least for drivetrain and suspension parts.

I installed one of their CV joints on the front driveshift of my Jeep CRD back in 2013 and it is still functioning perfectly. (transfer case end) :D
But these joints must be packed with the proper grease and installed correctly for them to last.

I need to do the same thing (Replace the front drive shaft) It was my understanding that replacing the entire shaft was more desirable then a particular CV joint. From what I remember, there are replacement shafts out there, but is there a trick to installing them? From what I could tell, it looks to be a straight unbolt, replace shaft and bolt on.
Am I missing something?

Why would you replace the whole drive shaft when it probably just needs the CV joints replaced?

Idle curiousity....

I agree, why spend all that money when simply replacing a single or even both bad CV joints & boots will work just fine?
The difference in cost is hugely significant!
But if money is no issue......

I have yet to find someone who will replace the CV joints, just the drive line. (Which I could do myself)

A real mechanic would have no problem performing individual CV joint & boot replacement!
Huge difference in rebuilding parts verses being a simple "parts changer".
Sounds like you need to find a real mechanic...

Those CV end kits are not available through most shops supply chains, ones for the Grands are but KJ's are not.Not one place in town(population of 400,000) can get those CV ends for a KJ but 1 and they will not sell alone since they only sell complete drivelines.

I suspect it's a warranty issue.

Folks that sell just the joints or parts are hard to get warranty replacements if things fail, and none will ever cover the labor to change a component, boot, etc.

The labor to change a full driveline is small, and since they are known to be professionally assembled, they don't generally have a problem getting warranty replacements when required. Not so much a question of if they are "a real mechanic", but just dollars and sense and making a living.

Not every store in every state carries them plus places like summit and jegs are in no shops supply chain.
