Most members here mounted their coolers vertically:

But how about horizontally:

Why does it just look wrong? It does have easier access to hose clamps.

We did tests on big industrial oil coolers years ago and the ones mounted as in the second photo were not as effecient. The then experts thought that maybe air was trapped in the top of the cooler or the oil took a shortcut and didnt fill the cooler.

Thank you. Totally makes sense.

I hate the idea of adding a cooler in front of the the already crowded stack!
And think about this, your removing heat from the ATF fluid and adding that heat right back into the AC condenser/OEM ATF cooler, CAC, and radiator.
I am toying with the idea of adding a stacked plate cooler in either the opening below the bumper or placing one on the side frame rail underneath.

Derale makes a nice protected stacked plate "scoop cooler" just for this purpose and purpose built frame mounted ATF coolers like these:

I hope that surface area heat is removed from the new cooler and then blows past the original through all of the holes without much induction.

Your way may be better though. But what about dead air spaces? You may have to be observant of mount location.
At least in this location I know that air flow will be drawn through it.

I never thought that I would mount anything with tie wraps!
Kinda like Red Green and his duct tape.

But these coolers come with plastic push ties to mount directly to the rad. Probably so you can take advantage of the fan draw. So tie wraps are pretty close to oem :D

I may put a couple more in just for good measure.

Mount it vertically with the inlet at the bottom and outlet at the top.
This will ensure the the entire thing fills with fluid.

^ this for mounting advice. And the ties are pretty commonly used nowadays.

I use a big aluminum pan with a drain plug and fins, holds 4 more qts of ATF, never have seen temps over 150 on 95F days. Moving on the hwy she is at 120F. I also use a lubelok reusable pan gasket, NO rtv needed, joy!

Yes I had to modify the skid plate a bit.

Standard bolt pattern?
Even better if it had a spot for a temp probe.
Do you have a link for it?

I have read that the pan is not the most accurate location for the temperature probe.
I have purchased an in line block from Summit Racing that allows the probe to be placed in the flow path of the cooling line going to the cooler.
Will post pictures when I get it installed

Return line?
I put my probe on the hot side going out.

We have got to stay consistent

Sometimes "going to" just means "attached to". Semantics. Just checking what he meant.

TO the OEM Cooler as being placed in series within the flowpath of the top line leaving the transmission going to the cooler after the ATF has done it's work.
Not the return line which is the bottom line receiving the cooled ATF flow back from the OEM cooler.

This is a picture of the block that will be placed in series with the uncooled ATF flow path leaving the transmission.
The probe will be in actual direct contact with the ATF passing through the block when it leaves the transmission on its way to the cooler.
This should be the most accurate reading for the status of the ATF fluid according to everything I have read.
Reading ATF fluid temperature in the pan can be misleading since it is constantly being mixed with the fluid that has returned from the cooler after it has been through the heat exchanger.

I will be installing a Glowshift Transmission Temperature Gauge to match my Boost gauge.
I have also ordered an OBDLINK MX to use with the TorquePro App on a tablet I have so I can compare what the OBC sees for temperatures vs an actual gauge hopefully.
Will report on findings after I get everything installed and working properly....

Finely finished getting the transmission gauge installed and all wired and plumbed up. Will be testing it out over the next few weeks.

Installed the temperature sensor using the "T" block (see picture in previous post) in the 3/8 metal line leaving the transmission going to the cooler in front so it will be in direct contact with the fluid. It should be super accurate?

good evening,
you could tell me the steps for the electric cables, I would like to install the tools just like you did. grazie R.

I went the $10 route (14.1 in green):

Whatever gauge you buy will come with a wiring diagram, you will just have to find ground and battery.

Behind the side kick panel for the driver (North America) there is a good ground post.
You can use a piggyback fuse holder and take the same slot as the radio (driver side on the side of dash).

Routing wires is up to you.

For wiring connections, I simply tapped into the existing wiring harness going to the rear of the speedometer to pick up the following circuits.
Much easier than trying to find the circuits on the fuel panel.

    *Circuits required:
    12v unswitched
    12v switched
    12v dash light
Ground under one of the screws on metal plate behind speedometer, see second picture below.
*Note: Some gauges may not require all of these connections.
