Have my new (reman'ed is all that is available currently, so it is reman'ed) 545RFE fluid pump and am putting in some spring upgrades.

Newer style Mopar pump:

Older style pump would have a much larger raised hub here with integrated seal:

New style pump cover ("hubcap") with replaceable seal:

Sonnax TC Accumulator Valve Spring location (left port in pic) :

I have two more decisions to make..the first being that the TransGo 45RFE-HD2 Reprogramming Kit comes with a tri-spring TC Accumulator Valve spring replacement, so i have to decide between the Sonnax upgraded single spring or the TransGo triple spring design. I called both companies and even the person at Sonnax agreed the load being spread over the 3 springs might help with longevity, but they were wondering if that changed the spring rate (increased it), and they said that would make for quicker and more noticeable TCC lock.
The stock Mopar TC Accumulator Valve Spring is a known weak point with documented breakages (been watching a ton of RFE teardown/rebuild videos from pro trans rebuilders and they all mention the issue). Sonnax chose to use upgraded spring material as that seemed to be the cause of the weakness/breakage.

The other decision is the TransGo kit comes with a different than OEM design TC Limit Valve. Apparently there is an earlier OEM and later OEM TC Limit Valve design. I am going to confirm I have the later design in this reman'ed pump, which will determine if the TransGo Limit Valve parts are needed (this is directly from TransGo when i spoke with them on phone).

Here is the TC Limit Valve as it came in the pump:

Please post pics of the install. I have not dug this deep into mine.
Where did you get the pump cover from? And why is it necessary?
I’ve read conflicting things about the pump cover.

The pump cover comes with the pump. This is the new style pump/cover. The primary difference is the cover now holds the seal, wheras before the pump had an integrated hubseal. That old design leaked, hence the new design.

The install is essentially splitting the two halves of the pump, five torx 30 bolts hold the stator on, and 26 torx 25 bolts hold the two halves together. Take all those out, remove the thin plate between them and then you locate the various valves and remove the small metal retainers, pull springs out, put new ones in, replace retainers. Reassemble pump, carefully, with proper torques specs. And that is it.
Pretty straightforward actually.

I looked all over for the best price. And bought from idparts. They were within $20 of the best price i could find.

The cover came with the pump. (I am not sure if they do everywhere pumps are available. best to check if the cover comes with the pump..and the cover seals).

idparts did state the cover did not come with either the center seal, or the o ring outer seal so i sourced those elsewhere. Turns out, the pump cover came with both seals already installed, so i didnt need the seals. I contacted them and they said they hadnt been coming with seals, and that they will note it.

Just a point of clarity. All transmissions you purchase from a dealership or elsewhere are re-manufactured or rebuilt. The only way to get a new transmission is to purchase a new vehicle, Manufacturers don't make extra transmissions for cars, just one for each vehicle. A properly re-manufactured transmission has all the upgrades the OEM supplier has recommended and actually OEMs outsource this work. I like transgo kits, that company's PhD founder was a really bright and hands-on guy. I'm still rebuilding transmissions as a side gig for my neighbor and his 29-33 ford hotrod buddies, they just love to burn rubber for some reason.

ALSO the best add-on to my "reman" transmission has been the drain plug enabled, temp gauge enabled aluminum deep pan and the lubelocker no RTV reusable pan gaskets. Thank you lubelocker! No affiliation but using and removing RTV is such a PITA.

This is a good online PDF that breaks it all down:> http://akpphelp.ru/images/contents/file ... -intro.pdf

I said the pump is reman'ed not the transmission.

And after a complete customer service fiasco last week, I have a Lube Locker gasket on the way.

LubeLocker gaskets are great, best I have ever used! :D

Here is the pump part of the TransGo instructions. These are the revised 2015 instructions ( and current). One known issue It highlights is wear in the TC Limit Valve bore. If you receive your reman'ed pump and it has the "Type 2" valve, the TransGo Limit Valve parts are not needed because the bore wear has already been dealt with and essentially prevented with the Type 2 parts. My pump has the Type 2 valve so I will not be installing those parts.

Image

And this, again, is the "Type 2" TC Limit Valve that came in my reman'ed pump. The spring rides in the cup of that plunger. In the Type 1 style valve the spring can easily wobble in the bore and causes the bore wear.

Image

And the LubeLocker 545RFE pan gasket has arrived:

I've had my pan off three times, the gasket works great, don't over torque

Thanks. I will double check the torque specs. I got 105 in-lbs from the FSM.

All the upgrade parts ready to go in the day after tomorrow.

Ready for some significant transmission upgrades / maintenance.
Suncoast Converter. Mopar upgraded pump, Mopar filters. LubeLocker pan gasket. Sonnax Line Booster, and TransGo Reprogramming / Shift Kit.
Sticking it all together with Assemblee Goo.

Are you doing the R&R yourself?

My personal tips. You may know all of this already.

Disconnect battery.

Drain fluid, replace pan.

Move exhaust, heat shields out of the way, disconnect from turbo.

Remove the starter to get to the small window to expose the TC bolts, use a flat tip screw driver (or appropriate little pry bar) to gently move the TC for each bolt. USE NEW TC bolts.

The dipstick holder comes out with the transmission, don't attempt to remove it separately.

Use some wooden blocks between the cross member under the oil pan to keep the engine from sagging too much.

Always remove the transfer case first, support the transmission while doing this.

Cross member bolts can be really tight, stuck. Use appropriate rust buster and use anti seize during re-install.

Have fun, watch your knuckles.

Thanks.

Yes, I am doing it all myself. R&R, and all the transmission work.

I had read the dipstick housing can be removed with the trans in place, that is not true?

Also does the exhaust have to be moved?

Luckily, this thing looks new underneath, been a south texas and south carolina rig it's whole life. everything i have touched so far has come off easily. Cat still has a sticker on it, confirmed with PO (who has owned it since it had 5k) that it is all original exhaust.
