I broke a glow plug off and now am in the process of pulling the cylinder head to take it to a machine shop. I have the timing tools ordered. Is there a way to pull the head then time everything after i get the head back from the shop? I tried search bar to see if someone has asked this before...so if this has already been asked I am sorry for the double post. I currently live in Fountain, CO if there is anyone that is close by willing to help me out? Thank you for your time. |

You can pull it all apart and retime it later. Turn the crank to 90degrees past TDC, the mark on the crank is the TDC mark you can see under the crank pulled, at this position the crank pin can be inserted. The cams have notches in them, these need to be pointed to each other to insert the pins. So I watched the videos. To ensure I do this right, the intake manifold will not seat if I have the locking pins in. So I took them out and now it sits flush am I ok to install it then Time it once I get the manifold bolted back down? |

Yes, with the crank mark at the 3:00 position as Sam stated and pinned using the flywheel alignment tool, you can rotate the cams as needed to bolt the intake on. Once the intake is bolted down, follow the timing instructions as outlined in the video... |

Just use the alignment pins to drop the valve cover down straight to avoid knocking off rockers. Then follow the torque procedure in the manual for the valve cover, slowly compressing the valves open as you run the intake down. Or you can install without the pins in and then later turn the cams so the pins can be inserted. |

While you have the head off - PLEASE take the opportunity to replace all the valves with new and lap them in, and also to install ARP studs and a two-hole head gasket. Your engine will thank you, and you won't need to do all of this labor (and possibly more) again at a later date. |
