had my mechanic replace the glow in my crd today. all went well until he got to the number 2 plug. said it started to come out like the other three but started to bind up, so he stopped. he felt like the steel glow plug threads would take out the aluminum threads in the head. any suggestions as to how to get the plug out without damaging the head. maybe pb spray or heating the engine to max temperature?

yes to all above.
I've had good luck with 'exercising' the fastener or component; Back it out until it starts getting snug, (not tight) , then screw it back in. Take a blow nozzle and blast loosened crud out from around glo plug. That way, you aren't trying to pack even more debris into the threads, making it even tighter. Also help 'work' the lubricant into the glow plug threads.
Repeat with the spray nut buster. Usually, you can gain a little on each attempt.

X2 on both.
Soak it good with Kano Kroil Penetrating Oil or PB Blaster.
tighten it back up, heat engine up either by running or plugging in block heater. Running will get you more temperature.
While engine is still up to temperature,
soak it some more, then break it loose again,
then spray head of GP real good with CRC 05002 Freeze-Off Super Penetrant.
The freeze-off will actually help make the GP metal contract slightly to help ease extraction.
then slowly work it back and forth in short turns while continuing to spray it with freeze off while working it to fully out.
Keep your fingers crossed! :juggle:
Best of luck...

Sounds similar to my experience. Only I had the front end apart to replace TB & water pump and couldn't run the engine to operating temps. Go slow, mine didn't end so well...

Same thing happened to me when I replaced my glow plugs. They all came out great except for #2. Best I can tell, mine snapped the outside casing without damaging the interior. Lucky me, I don’t even get a warning light on my dash!
