I created an Excel spreadsheet to add up the cost of all the parts I need to rebuild my engine. It was a giant number so I looked for good used engines. For $4k or more I can get an engine with 80k miles that needs a timing belt kit at least. The “warranty” states any modifications made to factory equipment voids the warranty. Clearly they don’t know our CRDs!!

Now I am trying to find out if I can install a newer (improved) 2.8L CRD in my Jeep. I emailed MORRIS but have received no reply. Does anyone have any experience with a swap like this or any suggestions about who I should contact?

Timing Belt Kit, push bar, Fumoto drain valve, Samco hoses & upgrades fuel filter head at 165k
Dropped an exhaust valve at 205k - Trying to determine if it’s worth buying a replacement engine.

I’m sure I recall someone posting about installing an A428 as an option to the crazy expensive and way to difficult Cummins crate motor swap.

A428 - In 2010, VM released an updated 2.8L engine and gave it the model number A428. Based on the same design as the R428 but with some upgrades, including piezoelectric fuel injectors working at 1800 bar and larger diameter head bolts. These improvements bumped the power output to 197 horsepower while allowing the engine to meet the more stringent Euro 5 standard. I want the A428 in my 2006 Jeep Liberty!

Layout is very very different.
Also, it's still a timing BELT design, so not everything is improved as much as it should be.

Again, you are back to Flash's point. All of the A series engines are Export only.
It's probable you would have to get the export ECM and loom with them, then figure a way to make it interface with the domestic vehicle loom and sensors if it's possible.
I've no idea what it would cost, but definitely compare it with the Cummins R2.8 re-engine and the factory support that comes with, if you need it.
