Folks 222000Kms and I had a top end engine failure
Is 2006 crimson red liberty sport model with perfect glass (including sunroof) grey cloth interior
I am now making a fix vs start new decision

Part of this decision is to see what interest there is selling my upgrades:

1) The crd engine (top end needs rebuild, suspect rockers so will need re-timing with new timing belt), turbo, electronics with weeks stage 2 installed, GDE eco tune and tuner. Etecno 7v plugs new in march.
2) Samco hoses (new this past March) and the gasser airbox with K&N filter
3) Hot diesel solutions thermostat housing
4) ARB front bumper with 2- 6” fog lights
5) Sasquatch parts intake heater kit with control panel.
6) Old Man EMU 2” lift kit (also new in March)
7) Stieger performance left front window repair kit (still in box-never installed)
8) Good set of general grabbers (factory size) and a set of winter tires that are really only good for rims.
9) 1 245/75/R16 new general grabber AT2 on factory rim (spare tire for show-plan was to find 4 more in spring, enabled by the lift kit)
10) New Transmission filter kit, New oil filter, Set of CV joints new in box
11) New magna flow 2.5” muffler in box with clamps-not installed

All Other items on jeep would be parted out also
Is trail rated so I have skid kit, no leaks on transfer case, front or rear end
Has always been well maintained, had new timing belt on order but have cancelled that.

Located in Calgary, AB. Will deliver within 300kms or ship at cost.
Way this works is I will capture interested offers and make decision based on $
Message me with what parts and your offer.
If someone want the entire jeep we can have that conversation too. I can deliver it on flat deck.

On flip side if someone has top end rebuild kit for sale or another CRD engine for liberty, Im interested

The current U.S. dollar to Canadian dollar exchange rate is 1.30 Canadian dollars to every 1.00 U.S. dollar. Factor in international shipping + the Goods & Services Tax, and the prices can be as high as quoted.

The head gasket is likely toast, so you'll want to add some more parts and a lot more labor to that list. Those gasses have to go somewhere, and when both exhaust rockers fail on any cylinder...

So far no signs of that. There are lots of discussions where people just change the rockers, however no one has commented how far that got them? thoughts on this step?

Given the discussion around valve failure it seems pulling the head and replacing valves would be the best course of action.

Inexpensive for parts but lots of labor.

If anyone has them handy I need to search out the how to for:

1) re-timing from scratch
and
2) how to check heads for true

Why would the rockers just give up the ghost. What was the reason? Timing belt skip, broken glow plug, broken valve?

Does it run?, White smoke? loss of power?

It was running when I turned it off and the noise was exactly same as the youtbe of bad rockers for jeep crd.

I was in a big hurry to turn it off to minimize damage. I did not notice smoke and was impressed it stayed running while I got to a turn off where I was out of traffic and could be towed.

Did not appear to be a big loss of power but I was feathering accelerator to get it where I needed with minimal rpm.

I have other priorities right now, but plan is to dump oil and dump coolant check those. Then start the teardown to expose rockers and see what is there.

220K, I would not put the head back on without new valves after the reading I've done on this list regarding dropped exhaust valves. You've got most of the work done by the time you expose the rockers.

That's only 136000 miles.

That’s definitely in range of when we see rocker failure.

As far as timing the engine from scratch, it’s fairly simple. Crank needs to be 90 degrees past top dead center. There is a mark on the crank pulley which will be at 3 o’clock. Then when you put the cam/valve cover back on, put your locking pins in the cams and your in time.

For the head I would take it to a machine shop to check it over

I'm interested in a few things depending on your decision. Right now mine is still not running and I have replaced all those items in the engine you are referring to.

Folks, I have been out shopping my options and there is a mint 2006 with 62,000 miles on it in Kitchener, ontario.
The guy has every service receipt for it and he has no mods to it. His name is Nigel, great bloke to talk to. I seriously considered doing the 34 hour drive. He is on kijiji and autotrader or if anyone wants his # drop me a PM.

Im going to park mine for now and find time when the snow flies to tear the engine down and make a decision when I see the damage myself. In the meantime if enough people gang together and want to but the lot of parts for $3750 I will sell them as a package.
