Just a problem to avoid if you utilize one of these heads due to my lack of observation.
I just finished replacing a fully functional head at 190k miles to try to prevent any valve issues. I also had vm specialists put in all new valves .

When I put coolant back in it flowed out of two threaded ports that I had failed to compare to the removed head . I then removed the two threaded bolts with copper washers from the removed head and put them in the replacement head which cured the problem. I just never knew the threaded ports were connected to coolant system until I already had a big mess to clean up and more work to reach them under intake side of valve cover to put them in than if done before placing head on block.

I would suppose these ports are intended to be used for a block heating system access

They are part of the EGR coolant circuit one of them is plugged from the factory and the other was a nipple for the coolant hose that went to EGR valve. Did VM also clean the head surface and Injector seats like they did with mine?

I purchased a low mileage takeoff heard from them and also had all the valves replaced by them which was a very reasonable cost the valves were $68 british sterling per set exhaust and intake so 2 sets at about US $200 or less. They did not charge extra for valve installation. After read this I realized I had already done weeks type modification and had plugged these on previous head myself or at least one of them.

Yes the heads (2) i received were in very good condition and very clean they did not require any prep. I did use the copper coat spray that is very sticky.

As a side note the valve cover I removed was also largely free of the egr grime I have seen in others.
I bought it with 78k on it in 2010 and the po was in airforce and had diesel mechanic friend who had advised him to get the GDE hot tune at about 40k miles I believe. as noted above we had also did egr delete later and it had a GDE turbo and tune for last 3 years or so . we also used seafoam periodically.
