Does anyone know what is required to replace the block heater cord? Does the FCV and intake elbow along with EGR need to be removed to access the cord end? What is the common way of replacing the cord as it is now getting cold and plugging in is the best way to start the CRD cold.

I replaced mine last year. Pretty sure I accessed the the cord end from below the Jeep. Reached up from behind the left front wheel. It was a very tight fit for my man hands and I don't have any of that egr stuff. The cord just pulls out and pushes back in to a three prong connector at the heating element. No snaps or keepers. I bought my cord at a local napa for pretty cheap. PO had left it dangling from the front tow hook. It had no visible damage, but replacing the cord restored my block heater function. I routed the cord up the main wire loom behind the battery and up to the front left corner of the engine compartment with just enough slack to pull it out from under the hood when needed.

I assume you already had the Weeks stage 1+2 intake kit and removed your EGR system when you changed the heater cord. Can it be done with an engine in stock configuration?

I puchased my crd with the weeks kit already installed. Maybe check if you can access the cord end from underneath. Here's a photo of what mine looks like from underneath. The plug end is the red thing.
