| Post subject: | Directional driving lights. |
Had a random thought today while driving to work. You know how some newer cars have headlights that aim at corners, or that have a flood light that lights up to the side as you turn? Well I realized today that that could be possible on one of our Jeeps. The 2006 has a clockspring that reads the steering angle, which is used by some of the traction control system. The clockspring is a CAN module. In theory I could put a Arduino, or other module, on the CANBUS, read the steering angle sensor, and decide that over a certain degree left or right that I wanted to turn on and output that would trigger a light. Could also use vehicle speed, headlight on, etc to determine behavior. Sounds like a fun project I don't have time for, but neat in theory. |

The issue is finding the PID for steering angle. Maybe the higher end tools can show you but so far I have found very little info of Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep specific PIDs. Ford and GM is no problem. |

Ford and GM is no problem. Its CAN, its on the bus, just need to read the right address. The Clockspring itself talks can. Connect only your arduino to the clockspring and nothing else on CAN and there is only 1 device to spit out data. |
