Just double checking my thoughts here but my CRD starts to shake a lot from the under side when I give it gas when going up hill and speeds excess of 65 mph. Torque convertor?

entirely possible but could also be u joints or motor mounts which are also fairly common problems.
U joints however usually cause more vibration when under light load at certain speed and torque ranges.
One thing that might indicate torque converter is if you have overdrive on now and it is doing this then try same maneuver with overdrive off this will cause engine to run at higher rpm at the same speed and keep torque converter fully engaged and if the converter is the problem the vibration may stop
I am sure others will also give further help.

:ROTFL: yes I ment fuel.

So update the shaking seems to move from front to rear or the vehicle while its happening at speeds. This would indicate the ABS but I'm now confused if that's a symptom or a cause...
Either th shaking is caused by the ABS. If so , I'm not sure why the ABS thinks the wheels are slipping at night speeds...
Or the ABS is attempting to correct the shaking which still leaves the question of what's causing it...

I think if the ABS was doing this you would either see the traction control light on the dash come on or it would throw CEL codes.

The traction lift didnt come on but the shaking would move move from front end to back and never both at same time. They sometimes would alternate as if they are talking...

Mine is an '06 which is a little different, but there is no question when the ABS goes off. I go from standing on the brakes, to suddenly the pedal drops about an inch... maybe a bit more, and then has the regular ABS pulsing.

I would bet this is absolutely a torque converter problem. It is probably "moving" as the drive shaft picks up a harmonic and starts to vibrate itself. Never trust a vibration or sound in these things. The CRD is a great ventriloquist.

For example, I replaced the front CV axles in mine and forgot to tighten the lug nuts all the way on the drivers side, after lowering it from the jack. I thought the CV on the passenger side was bad because it was making a loud "THUMP THUMP THUMP" whenever I turned even slightly to the left. You could feel it in the passenger floorboard and it sounded 100% like it was coming from the passenger side wheel well. After looking around and finding nothing wrong anywhere it hit me that I didn't tighten the lug nuts. Tightened them up all the way and the noise was gone. Sounds can travel in odd ways in a Jeep!

Well I balanced the tires are it still does it...so unless its throwing weights at an incredable rate, then I need to check the axles and maybe the TQ? It acts perfectly fine with he OD off so I'm not convinced it's the TQ converter but the possibility still exist.

Your answer lies in your statement. Your tires and axle shafts don't care whether you're in overdrive or not...they only care about their rotation speed relative to their out-of-balance. It is your torque converter. Period. To prove it, go find a big hill and drive up it doing about 65mph. While still ascending, stomp on the accelerator. Make sure you have a mouth guard in before you do because it is GOING to shudder. Now, do the same thing again except hit the "OD Off" button on the shifter right before you stomp the accelerator. It will downshift and rev up pretty high but it will not shudder.

Let us know how it goes...

This sound on par with what ive been experiencing. Ill tomorrow as there lot of steep hills i climb to and from work. The next question is what are the current options for TC? a lot of companys that people use to recommend no longer make TC for the 545RFE.
I heard Florida Torque Converters where good. but not sure if i need regular stall speed or low.
https://www.floridatorqueconverters.com ... 45RFE.html
Sasquatch supposedly still sells SunCoast TC even thought i heard they are no longer made...

So here's a new and rather unusual development. I haven't felt the shaking lately. I'll get on the throttle going up hill ad I can feel it wants to shake from the underside but it doesnt. This seems to only happen when it rains. Why would water prevent the shaking?

*Edit*
I'm 99% positive it's the TC now. I got it to replicate the shudder and on flat surfaces it is constantly at 60mph and when climbing inclines it can happen at speeds as low at 45mph. It's so constance I can to the conclusion it can only be the TC and something going on with its lockup. Added some lubeguard anti shudder and see if that helps but a new TC may be on the top of my lit for new parts.

Sounds exactly like torque converter to me.

That suddenly doesn't sound like a TC issue.
At 45mph the TC clutch shouldn't be locked unless you have a GDE trans tune, therefore cannot shudder.

It only does it as low as 45 if I'm driving at faster speeds then reduce my speed to 45 then try to go back up.

Stock, the TC clutch engages/disengages about 50mph, so it wouldn't shudder at 45. If you accelerate hard from 45 and the shudder starts between 50-55 and feels like the trans shifted to a higher gear, then it is likely the problem, but full throttle at 45 with shudder below 50 would be something else.

its possible that a change in tire size or differential gear etc could affect indicated speed on speedometer . Perhaps should be looking at more RPM in whatever gear it occurs. Certainly sounds like torque converter except for indicated speed . Probably not worth the trouble unless desired anyway but there is a mod I believe originally posted by FLMAN that allows one to push a button to force Torque converter lockup.
